Had huge problems in level 3 but got lucky: at one point dying yielded 2 extra lives.

Great score John. I've never had 2 lives thrown up in a death, but I regularly get one. Doesn't help much if you are left with a weedy shot power; I have a tendency to hit the special weapon as soon as I am reborn as too often I die twice in quick succession with 4 special weapons left unused.

Still far from the top players... I receive an extra life just every 10-15 times I die... which version are you using, guys, whdload or adf?
Is it possible that there is some differences between them?

On my laptop I use the WHDLoad version, on Pandora the ADF. Didn't notice a difference (except load times).

It's just a gamble. I had runs where I didn't get a single extra life.

Usually I don't get any extra lives... in my best game I got one... better than nothing!

I completed the 8th level with 4 lives left, it was supposed to be the last one but it wasn't...

At the end I died against the boss of the 11th level after more than an hour of game... I think that now I am done with this game.

C'mon guys! Let's see if it ends after the 12th level...

While uploading a 1.5M-run I played again and did better. Aborted the upload and replaced it:

Have to revise my rating for this game because it has some bugs where you die for no apparent reason. Guess some offscreen objects can "collide" with you although they are on the opposite side of the screen.
Happens rarely though so with the smooth scrolling, great animations and good gameplay it's still better than SWIV.
But the flawless Battle Squadron remains king of Amiga shoot'em ups.

Found spots where I died for no reason. Have a look at 24:18, 33:12 and 39:18. Do you see any enemy ship or projectile that I collide with?

I've also found some bugs here and there but the game is nice anyway...
Unfortunately at the end it is a bit frustrating and i just wanted to stop playing.

Yeah can be really frustrating when you play well for 40 minutes and then everything goes south all of a sudden.

Amazing score John. I've got some time tomorrow for a last go at this game but I think 2m might be a big ask!

As for random deaths: some baddies die and produce dark grey "shrapnel" which kills you on collision. Against some backgrounds it's almost impossible to see it and feels like you died randomly. Do you think that's what you are experiencing?

Thank you Lines! Good luck tomorrow - it's really a matter of endurance, staying focussed and not randomly dying due to that bug.

Definitely no shrapnel! Just look at the vid at 24m18s, 33m12s and 39m18s. No shrapnel at all there.
