Project on hold indefinitely now, whilst I sit here 'relaxing' I have no car, no projector, and bugger all else. Need to sort out a new job as I left the last one a couple of months too early. Once I have a 330ci again and don't go blind watching regular TVs so I can actually watch some TV then project will be back on the go
![]() (ex employer are cunts though and deserved to be left in the shit and wouldn't have paid me a single week longer so I would have ended up being owed a weeks wages if I'd stayed) |

My god that last post made me sound a bit of a spoilt little prick!
Anyway, after playing many other Buck Rogers type games on various systems I will restart this project. At least I have a desk now ![]() |

Do you have 33% of unemployment like here in Lanzarote, Canary Islands????? I do think there are more work offers in Somalia.

I am 37 and flunked out of my job training. It seems that all that college education I spent all of my time on graduating from over 4 years ago taught me the complete wrong approach as far as enterprise programming is concerned.
They taught me that once you write something it's yours to reuse. In a consulting firm it's sold to whatever company hired your firm and for the next contract you have to start completely over from scratch or use whatever middleware they have access to. They taught me to start small and you can pick up the rest on your own. I started small, graduated in the top two in my class only to find out that I don't know how to write large-scale database software at all. I probably won't be going on Social Security here since I technically can still work. It just means I have a 4-year degree in Computer Science that I totally cannot use in today's job market. @rampartsagain I'm with you. I'm going back to trying to program a visual-syntax replacement for Java instead of trying to learn the original all over again.

For us of the old school we know what is a computer and the work it give to make a basic program ,not todays pre made interfaces that you use like a sims game where you just have to place a sintax here a picture there put on the compiler and it´s cooked, i don´t know and don´t understand the bug inside me of the retro world, too many good memory´s of the 80´s and 90´s.
i am nostalgic ,i wish time could turn back . Last edited by rampartsagain; 11 June 2012 at 03:33. |

I do think we all have forgotten how the old times were. You only had a Tv. Why? You only had a car for the family, Why? What phone did you have? What laptop did you have? (none, and your first Pc was a very extraordinary spending). Did you have.... so much things?

At the time I was more pissed off that my Ł2500 car was written off for Ł1700 and then Ł200 was subtracted from the settlement cheque to cover the last 2.5 months of insurance even though the other party was at fault and the excess was paid for by the other idiot's insurance. Add to that the same sort of time as getting screwed out of Ł1000 on my car because some idiot drove into my driver door nearly killing me, my projector blew the lamp but only as it killed the ballast board and Optoma didn't have a part.
I'm usually not like that but hey I LOVED my car and I LOVED watching crap after work on a 12 foot screen via DLP projection ![]() As some people from the UK have said, it's not just getting a job, it's more like 1/20th of your monthly wages goes to stupid shit like having running water in your house that you can't even drink because it tastes so foul or 1/10th or more of monthly wages to have your bins collected 4 times (council tax!) etc. I worked out that in that crappy job, if I signed on all I had to do was earn about Ł15 a day extra to be no worse off anyway. Ahhh and of course not forgetting I nearly lost all the work I had done as the PC I was using killed the hard drive (don't you just love how suicidal Winblows is? haha) Still I'm not starving so.......... Anyway I was playing Zoom 99 and Moonsweep and a few other games on various machines like MSX/Amstrad/Atari/C64 and they are all basically Buck Rogers : Planet of Zoom ripoffs and I was going to do a comparison....and thought if only it was on Amiga too So I looked over my files and it was all as I had left it (ie well labelled and in logical directories etc). I think it's a game worth doing if I can pull off the sort of "wow that's running at just 7mhz on a 32 colour VGA screen mode!" wow factor. May even do a limited run with box and manual and real disks etc for a budget price......just so it doesn't get lost when the FBI accidentally delete the internet from existence in 2016 LOL Last edited by ImmortalA1000; 11 June 2012 at 04:10. |

![]() Laptops may be cheaper today, but they are also inferior in some ways. Just try and purchase a laptop in PC World for under Ł1000 that can play the 2005 smash hit PC game Battlefield 2....something my 2006 laptop does very nicely in full detail settings ![]() |

Yep agreed
One thing that was said was when everything gets computerised we can all relax and have more social time.... That was true but its called unemployment !! If it was ever possible.....one virus wiping out the internet would bring the world to a stand still...Computers are relied on for to much these days |

I'm thinking of a water level (no idea how yet), barren moon with craters, and cracked mud lake bed to go with the sand dunes already done.
Something weird going on with my WinUAE Wb 3.1 HD config atm though. SFX, still not found a clean sample of the Starfighter lasers though! And have to see if I can even convert to 8bit IFF sound samples. |

I haven't posted for ages about this game but have been working on it whenever I can. Just all the work I was doing was on real Amiga computers (so difficult to capture videos as I do my game videos with WinUAE and Camtasia software usually on a PC). And to be honest a lot of the work was more to do with what would look great/have minimum colours/maximum copperlist palette switches to allow this game to be fast and impressive on a regular TV on a real Amiga connected to it. Two of the desert levels were done as far as animation of flying over the terrain go. Was quite hard at work getting a result I thought looked nice for the water level but never was happy with what was done so far animation wise. Also had the Starfigthers done and looking pretty impressive in their size on screen, proper arcade quality looking stuff.
Hit a major snag this week, I was happily coding coding away on my A2000 (with ear protectors on naturally lol) and was quite happy with my dual platform development (was doing 4 colour terrain for the Amiga + copperlist palette switch every 4-12 pixels....was also seeing how it looked with just 2 colours in the animation and all the colour graduations done on a 512 colour palette for the Atari ST/STE). To cut a long story short I was compiling my latest version (only minor tweaks not any real work lost there) and my Amiga white screened and that was it. I thought it's probably just crashed so rebooted...white screen. Switched off and turned on after 30 seconds...white screen and no drive click or hard disk seek. Left it off all day and it still is the same. The screen stays white ie no colour to indicate a specific chip, screen does not change. So OK I have a full spare chipset from my other A2000 which died also thanks to battery corrosion, so swapped out all the chips and the PSU (all of which I tested at the time on an A500 or A2000 friends owned) and same thing. God damn it!!!! I now have two lovely paperweights that look suspiciously like Amiga 2000s in my spare room and no way to code this game. I looked for replacement motherboards for A2000s and fack me are they expensive. So I guess for now this project has stalled. I really don't have a couple of hundred quid spare to get an ECS A2000 up and running *sigh* So it is with great sadness that until I have a working setup of an Amiga with HDD and nice keyboard (which is why I don't code on my A1200 or even put a HDD in it) that I think it's time to break open the UDK install and get cracking on a remake of one of my favourite Commodore 64 games from my childhood on DirectX11 Windows PCs *boo* *hiss* I would like to thank everyone here who has gone out of their way to offer me help technically and all the encouragement given. Sorry to let everyone down. If I come across a nice 2000 or something on ebay for peanuts I will resurrect this lovely game. The enthusiasm for this game in this thread was great ![]() |

Shame, I'm sure there is someone over there that can revive your 2000 back to its glory days for little or nothing

Battery corrosion is a real nightmare, this machine had a different battery which looked newish when I bought it and the realtime clock is nice to have on file stamps so never changed it *sigh*
Basically the board will take forever to trace for a logic fault as all the chips were working fine when pulled from my other A2000 (tested them when I bought this machine). How it goes sometimes, only one A2000/1500 on ebay and the dreamer wants 350 starting price (erm A4000/030 money there!) |
