Try the program FBLIT (Aminet). I run it on OS3.9 and it loads

100's of icons without running outa mem. Don't know if it

works on OS3.1 though

Cheers

Fblit works very well with WB3.1, but ClassicWB Full is built with scalos. Fblit doesn't have any effect on icons when using scalos.

Yup I use FBlit. I didnt know that about FBlit and Scalos. Often wondered why ppl raved about the boost Fblit gave!! Now I know why I see nop benefit. Is the boost from Fblit worth dumping Scalos?

Also given this issue if I keep scalos, how can I solve the original prob?

Depends, fblit works well if you've got a nice CPU, its good on my 50Mhz 030. The question is are you often running out of chip ram in a way that affects your usage of the machine? If yes, either dump newicons, or dump scalos in favour of WB + Fblit.

I looked for a solution for ages but didn't find anything other than switching back to Workbench + fblit.

It really runs low but not out when I open my games or demos folder ( loads of icons of course)
More annoyingly, I always run out of chip ram when trying to open jpeg photos (1mb+ in size)

you can use CyberBugfixAGA. i've use it on my A1200 for years with Scalos without any problems.
I think it's the best way to save your ChipRam !
