I've been thinking of connecting my amiga to a pc via a serial cable and using the DNET package by Matt Dillon and the NET: handler(both can be obtained from aminet). The main advantage of this would be the fact that the emulated amiga on the pc could be accessed directly by simply using the NET: assign.

One would no longer have to copy an .adf file to an pc formatted disk(or send via a terminal program) then to ram: and finally to a floppy disk.

transfering an adf image to an amiga formatted floppy would be a lot simpler, like this:

1> TransADF DRIVE DF0: FILE NET:SYS/wd.adf WRITE

The only snag is that I've never used WinUAE with serial emulation. How realible it is? Has anyone ever attempted something similiar?

This is of course is a solution for low-end amigas like the a500 or a600. I know there is amiga explorer from Cloanto but I was trying to come up with a free alternative.

Anyway, tell me what's your take on this.

Yes it works. It's slow(at least to me, but then again I'd never used serial for transfering data before) but works even on a 0.5mb machine. I'm trying to make it go a bit faster (2 colour screen, baudbandit.device, higher baud settings) and I think it got to a point when it's fairly usable
