For those using the whdload version under winuae makes sure cycle-exact is disabled.. otherwise the scrolling/sprites are messed up..

I am trying to play the WHDload version, but the game keeps freezing on me - actually it's an infinite loop built into the game in 2(!) different places. The code is testing a byte then doing a branch if not equal, but the value of said byte is always $3F so the loop is never broken. Entering the WinUAE debugger allows me to temporarily fix the bug, until the game decides to set said bytes to $3F again and cause an infinite loop
This has occured whilst trying to exit the modification menu (weapons and engine etc.) and after I have entered my name into the hi-score table.

One more gripe, you get NO points for beating the end of level boss (atleast for end of lvl 1 boss)

That all said, I have managed to make it to the end of level 2 boss, but his 2nd attack (flaming mouth) caught me out.

I think the problems regarding the freezing on the WHDload version were caused by my memory configuration - 8MB Chip RAM, 1MB slow RAM. I am now using 2MB chip RAM and 8MB fast RAM without any problems so far.

FYI: You get an extra live for scoring 250K (which on a good run should be near, or after, the level 2 boss).

Edit:aca0808 reminded me on Lemon that there is a tiny mini-ship icon at the bottom of level 2, near the end of the level, which also gives you an extra life. However, it requires precision flying or you may end up losing a life instead of gaining one

For those having difficulty with the game have a look at this image I have created (and will update when necessary):

http://www.aliensrcooluk.com/public/..._Hero_tips.png

Theres an extra life at the bottom of level 2 (pictured) and one at the top of level 3, not forgetting the one earnt by scoring over 250K.

I have also shown the upgrades screen and how to access it. I hope this helps everyone.

Edit: Has anyone been able to exit the WHDload version successfully? When I press the Print Screen key the game freezes for a few seconds, corrupts title screen text and then carries on!!

Cool! The game was quite difficult before i worked out how to upgrade the ship, i wonder if other people are struggling because of that reason also?

WHD exits fine for me.

On the first tip I collect that upgrade then enter the "shop". None of the available upgrades work however. "Blueprint not copied" or something similar.

This game is insane hard. I can get to what I think is the last boss on level 1 but his laser always gets me.

edit: It's not the last boss. I beat him then got stomped on by some droid with missile fragments and a machine a gun

The one pictured is the first one on level 1. There are usually 3 or 4 of these on each level. "Blueprint not decoded" means that you haven't accessed it yet. Greyed out items are ones that will be unlocked soon, and ones that are in the process of being decoded have a timer underneath them.
Collecting the highlighted item in the picture means you get items faster.

For the 1st level there are two bosses. The first rises up out of the water and has a spinning thing on the bottom, where he shots come from. Stay to the far left so his shots hit the square level block thing.

For the 2nd boss, you will need 1 upgrade minimum - the one that floats above your ship and shoots rockets(?). To beat him use your normal gun to blast away the top bit just above the cockpit. This causes the shield around the cockpit to open up. When he is about to start using his rockets on you, you need to fly so that your ship is just below where his minigun shots will be - this way he will not adjust his height and if you have the previously mentioned upgrade those rockets will hit the cockpit and he will be history.

John1979, if you are still having trouble with the first boss I have updated the image to include a list of recommended upgrades for the first 3 levels (I will do the other 2 later).

Sadly I am having trouble getting this game to work properly on my '040. There's some pretty bad graphical corruption when I load it on WHDLoad, and when I use the Nocache option the scrolling slows down and becomes jerky, as well as some slight sprite flickering. Will need to play about with some other options and hope that works.

@Lonewolf. You're a hero (not a disposable one either). Thanks for the advice.

No problem.

Just so everyone gets the tips, I posted this on Lemon yesterday:

There is an extra life on level 5 (I haven't seen any on level 4 so far)... but it is in a dead end!! Should you follow that route, when you are reborn you will come face to face with a boss!

Finally, landing at the shops recharges your life a bit. Iif any bonuses are onscreen as you enter the shop, expect them to be gone when you re-emerge
