Kickstart v45.061 by Cloanto
I came across this news:
http://www.amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-...-00068-EN.html I cannot clearly understand what they did to v40.68 roms. I understand what they did with workbench.library though But which new modules versions are included in it? I am understanding correctly, that they dont require setpatch to be run on AmigaOS? (This measn that they included all fixes upto setpatch v44.38? or what?). Can anyone shed some light on this beyond speculation? It seems the information Cloanto posted is not crystal clear, at least not for me |

Yep, it looks like you won't need a reboot for the basic installation, however there are of course many other patches that might still require a reboot if installed. The Cloanto ROM, if used, requires Setpatch to be skipped so any patches required other than those included will need their own loader. To me that's a strange approach - updating Setpatch to match the new ROMs would be a better way IMHO. It does sound like the most important updates are included and that these are probably better than the Setpatch 44.38 ones since they're newer.

did anyone use these ROMs on their system (softkicked I assume)?
I wonder how "compatible" it is when replacing a C= original kick 3.1 ROM with this 3.X 2014 one, disable just setpatch but leave everything else in place. I could give it a shot on my A4000 but then it has a PIV, CS2o6o, Rapidroad etc |

It should be as compatible as installing the same modules with Setpatch, LoadModule etc. and rebooting. Plenty of people have made their own unofficial kickstarts with OS 3.9 components and alternative 3rd party components. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but not sure there's much benefit to softkicking it when you need to reboot anyway.

I would not remove SetPatch but rather rename the AmigaOS ROM Update file if present.
I am quite sure that SetPatch is required amongst others to load 68040/68060.library and to patch math libs on machines without an FPU. On pre-3.5 machines you should however upgrade SetPatch to version 43: http://aminet.net/package/util/boot/SetPatch_43.6b |

Yep, that's my thinking too... But from the Cloanto FAQ:

It rather seems like a kickstart hack and not a proper rom build.
A changelog.txt and/or an history.txt regarding this new kickstart rom build would have been ideal to clear out all these doubts we seem to have. |

I thought that Cloanto had all right for 3.1... Don't they have the source code ?

Ok, I finally managed to get these 45.61 kickstart roms, so I took a quick look to see what changes were evident.
Changes in kickstart 45.61 (compare base is a classic 3.1 rom): exec.library 45.21 (new - Is this the old one from Cosmos?) wbfind 40.1 (this means that workbench.library IS NOW REQUIRED to be on disk or loadwb will fail) bootmenu 44.7 (from 3.9) scsi.device 43.46 (new. Is this the old one from Cosmos?) expansion.library 40.3 (new) filesystem 45.16 (recent public fix) console.device 44.8 (from3.9) ATAPIismajik (from 4.0 Classic - It is an idefix97 clone and it is being referenced somehow) filesystem.resource 45.10 (from 3.9) ram-handler 44.24 (from 3.9 but with the "100% full" bug removed) There seems to be a reference to accounts.library (from muFS) It is worth noting that available documentation mentions mathieeesingbas.library has been patched with some of Piru´s fixes. There is no Cosmos code in them.
Patches originally released under the ESCOM and Gateway Amiga ownership (no SetPatch or reboot required) scsi.device and exec.library updates by Alexander Benedictov, Chris Hodges, Heinz Wrobel and Toni Wilen expansion.library fixes by Jeff Weeks FastFileSystem fixes by Etienne Vogt mathieeesingbas.library fixes by Harry "Piru" Sintonen |

@Jope
Yes, I skipped that section of the article, but then I guess we need Toni Wilen´s words on the subject so that we can get a better picture of what has actually been implemented in these roms. |

Happy Christmas folks!
Before I shell out the dosh for a 3.x ROM for my A600, I'd like it confirmed the 16-bit Cloanto Kickstart (A500/A600/A2000) still contains the Workbench library. I've only 2MB Chip RAM + 2MB PCMCIA SRAM so every KiloByte is sacred! |

Nope, new Cloanto Kickstart requires a disk bound workbench
