Spoon: Trial of Gods

Browsing the old paper Amiga magazines we met an article about this game preview: Spoon: Trial of Gods. Does anyone remember anything about this? Does anyone have those fragments mentioned in the article?

Here you have a scan of the article which I tried to traslate it to English. Note the author of the text was, eerm, lets say ... slightly retarded. I think probably known him personally. Article comes from April 1996.

Another interesting game project is "Spoon: Trial of Gods" from the newly formed french group "Aries".

It is supposed to be a platformer like Superforg or Aladdin, but this one should be different. At first it should have really awesome graphics, never seen before. Also the story should be original, nothing like "save the princess". It should take place in a fantasy world with a rich history, you will meet interesting characters - some friendly, some not and the main character is evolving in time. The story is non-linear, there is several ways to complete the game and has various endings. Also should contain some extra levels, like Doom like shooter, Xtreme Racing style race or Guardian like flight.

Those are the promises from the authors. We were given a few examples. The first one is a scrolling through the first level. Although the system for a row-by-row dynamic colour changing has not been implemented yet and those actual 16 colours look poor, it is one of the best looking scrollings I have ever seen. Dual playfield, 50fps and the smooth scroll by 1/4 of the pixel (WTF!! Predseda) makes the difference. Spatial perception is so good that the resulting depth is almost a stereogram-like. Excellent are also screenshots from first two levels of the forest world. After the flood of 2nd class AGA games with amateurish graphics, pretending to be a top commercial titles (name for all: Akira) one can not even believe we can play something like this. It is clearly shown that Trash / Delight out of Amiga scene is a real professional. The last part is consisting of cute animations of few sprites (a chameleon and a mushroom).

The final game should run on A1200 and above, harddisk is needed, because of huge data ammount (over 10MB).

The bad news is the group came into a financial trouble and is looking for a sponsor. We hope they will succeed and the project will be finished.

Spoon trial of gods

Paul Claudel, 67200 Strasbourg.

Another interesting unreleased game that will never see the light of the day. Maybe we could get more info from developers?

Would have been a gem if it was released. Unconventional.
