Looking for NEWER games like Virus or Zeewolf
I was not sure where to post this and duckduckfoo did not help.
I've been replaying Virus and Zeewolf (thanks DamienD) and wanted to play an UPDATED version on Amiga (WinUAE, AROS), Windows or another emulated system, ideally with two players split screen, or two instances of WinUAE in link. Are there any games like this that fellow gamers know of? Low res poly, or even pure bitmaps, relatively open world but mission oriented action game. Even a COOP version of Desert, Urban and Jungle Strike series would be welcomed. Prefer to play local on the same machine but can fake netplay over VM if need be. Working from Home and learning how to network VM's so might as well enjoy the tasks while certifying the "process". Last edited by Valken; 19 January 2021 at 05:00. |

There was a Windows/PlayStation version of Virus called V2000 that was released in 1998.
Hostile Waters on Windows is a really good version of Carrier Command so it's a bit like Desert Strike. |

Armour-Geddon 1 & 2 have serial link, and nice 3D, you control multiple vehicles like carrier command or Zeewolf 2.
Fire Power is pretty good two player split screen. Trick or treat, split screen wolf engine with two wizards battling it out. Spent hours on this one! |

Loved SWIV 3d on the PC. Still got a boxed copy somewhere, great soundtrack!

I can't think of anything that mayches your requirements. Zeewolf 2 was 1995 so at the end of the Amiga's mainstream commercial game life.
A couple of thoughts - Guardian by Acid or Coala from Empire? Not the Virus/Zeewolf perspective, more in or behind the ship/helicopter but worth a look if you haven't seen them. If you love the Virus style engine, and WW2 tanks appeal then Conqueror is pretty good when you get used to the controls. I'm interested in the ArmourGeddon suggestion. I only ever got frustrated with it, when I tried to play singleplayer, but that could have just been me being too ponderous to keep up with the AI. Does it stand up as decent game? |

I will look at Guardian. Seems somewhat close to what I am looking for.
Actually, I play ARMA 3 on the PC and that game is really close (set it to the lowest graphics and geometry mode) but it is too hardcore to pickup for 20-30 minutes. Average playtime is 2-3 hours per mission so wanted something more arcade like with fast physics. I am looking at the sequel on the PSX actually. Old games really shine due to original gameplay mechanics. Last edited by Valken; 03 February 2021 at 11:18. |

I'm getting away from Virus-style games but the 1998 Battlezone is brilliant. It's a first-person RTS.

I don't know if you have tried it, but I used to make simple little missions with the mission builder in ARMA 3. Basically put several bad guys in a little village - and clear it. It was good fun and could be as short as you like.

@ Angus = Thank you for the info and I know about ARMA mission editor. I just wanted some simple shoot em up missions in the Heli or simular craft, UFO are awesome.
I cannot play ARMA 3 now because of STEAM who THINKS my ARMA 3 is NOT installed as it crashed out while online (over heating on my part). Now I have 50 GB of game data that STEAM cannot see, because I also need ANOTHER 50 GB FREE (I do not have this free at the moment as WFH used up HD space) to trick it to "reinstall" then to "find" the existing game files. Sigh... Steam ONLY does this with ARMA 3.... my other games all work... I went back to basic on the Amiga and old games that don't rely on Windows registry or some other third party DRM to validate my ownership. They have my money already, don't hassle me any further. Wow, not good.
Have you tried asking on the community forum? https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/forum/218-arma-3/ |

Not quite virus or ZeeWolf, more like Gunship is a game that David Walters is developing, it hasn't got a name yet but it looks very retro.

This is pushing it a bit, but have a look at "Future Cop: LAPD" on the Playstation.
It has a similar gameplay feel. |
