Mouse Issue

I got this mouse with my Amiga 1200 (second hand of ebay) and it doesn't appear to be working. Initially I thought it was, but upon trying it with two different CF drives I can't get it to do anything in Mouse port or joystick port.

Anyone any ideas on how to test to see if it is salvageable?

If the pointer doesn't move in any direction and none of the buttons work then it probably has broken wires in the cable or loose receptacles in the plug. You can test the cable with a multimeter and D9 socket.

Hopefully the cable can be unplugged from inside the mouse for easier testing and replacement. Open the mouse up and show us a photo of the insides.

maybe is a mouse for amiga/atari and you have to move the switch button (if exists) to select amiga

Are you sure it is even an Amiga mouse?

Can you deduce by looking at the D9 connector whether all of the holes have contacts in them?

I think it's a serial mouse. You can use actually these with an Amiga (OS only).

Looks very much like this one, which is a serial mouse:

weirdly I used a usb to 9pin adapter and used a completely different mouse (which was usb obviously) and it doesn't work either. Could this be something to do with the compact flash hard drives I've recently installed? Amiga keys work but the f-ing mouse both old stlye and newer style don't seem to work either.

I will carry out the tests mentioned above on the old style mouse btw, I just haven't got round to it yet.

Which USB adapter do you have? Some are PS/2 internally, and only work with dual-mode USB/PS2 mice.

That one looks like it only works with mice that supports the PS/2 protocol, so it will not work with many modern models.

This one uses the USB HID protocol so it works with most mice:

Strangely when I tried the mouse adapter again it worked!!! So I dunno why that is. The mouse I'm using is an old mouse anyways so no issue with PS/2 protocol.

I'm will try the old mouse with the ball and see what happens.

Do you have a known good mouse to test with? Also, a joystick could be used in the mouse port to verify the problem is the mouse and not the Amiga. If you use a joystick, expect very small movements as you move the stick. Maybe a pixel each movement. If you still see nothing, the Amiga could be the problem.
