Next set of releases is done, but we have not had time to put sort out & put out yet.

We have also been working on knowledge base + associated articles & glossary that will replace the old and decrepit FAQ.

I don't know how long the above will take, but it is almost done.

Shadow of the Beast I & II - so far we have not found any kind of integrity information on the disks, therefore we won't release it (yet).

We only release games we can verify 100%.

So that means .... ? I am not too sure what it means, but I think it means the disks have you foxed :P

Psygnosis certainly knew what they were doing with the SOTB 1 & 2

What about ....

Manic Miner
Killing Game Show
James pond
Populous and Zany gold ?

Psygnosis are well known to us for their *completely stupid* duplication practices. Basically, almost any game published by Psygnosis and you can almost guarantee they they never bothered to have a verify phase on the duplication process to cut costs. Maybe FromWithin can tell us more on this, but the amount of games with mastering errors from them kinda tells us they didn't know they some of the games they put out had errors. (even when many of the disk formats they used gave them integrity info! - they just didn't check it)

Beast I & II certainly has us foxed yes. But if IFW can't find integrity info on something, I would be pretty confident in saying that it probably doesn't have any.

Not having integrity info on a disk is very bad idea, and shows that the people responsible actually didn't know what they were doing. If they did not have to do any recalls - they were lucky.

Manic Miner - has integrity info
KGS - has integrity info (but some unsupported format)
James Pond - has integrity info (but Atari track not supported yet)
Populous - has integrity info
Zany (what?) - not seen this personally

Basically, much of the integrity info found the game itself doesn't even use (go figure... ) but if the duplicator machine couldn't verify it, well... you are going to get problems eventually.

Okay, here is some better info:

Beast 1 & 2: whenever IFW feels like writing a tool that can compare the disks. Not trivial, and not important right now. Besides there will be no guarantee that they are ok, even if the disks are the same... Early Psy games do not check EDC, though some of them do have checksums at least on the disk.

Manic Miner: unfortunately it is your dump that tells us to wait for
more dumps on this

KGS: 1.5bit mfm encoding. See http://www.caps-project.org/wip-apr-2003.shtml "Psygnosis Recording Format" - We could release it as a quick hack, but we'd prefer real support.

James Pond: Atari unsupported, will be supported sometime, still around 100 Atari dumps to get IFW started.

Zany Golf: may not not be duplicated, alt dumps are needed.

Populous: all valid revisions are out since march even with scans. Did I not give you them?

Dumping a game does not equal having it preserved.

KGS - I agree, release it with FULL support.

James Pond - Atari ? so the Amiga disk had an atari format ? erk.

Populous - I dont recall a URL being emailed

Zany Golf -

Beast 1&2 - Psygnosis really had fun didnt they

Oh well.

KGS: Our opinions exactly Unfortunately not a trivial task.

Yes, Atari tracks were reletively commonly used as (or part of) protection tracks. Dungeon Master (not v3.6) is an example, but that also uses very good flakey bit techniques.

Populous: Send me an email and I will get on it as soon as possible.

Zany Golf: Sorry - I mean, it may not be duplicated commercially - that is, it was certainly not duplicated on a Trace machine. So the only dump we have is probably a home copy. With more dumps, we can see if this is the case or not (for example, if written by the same drive) and we will probably find a probably duplicated version.

Psygnosis: Yes, they did have aversion to checking integrity. I wouldn't have liked to have worked in their returns department.

As soon as my A600 is assembled again, I'll start dumping my AtariST games. However, I still have to get a Subway USB-Port before I can re-assemble it...

whiteb: Yes, the whole manual please. We want exactly what came with the game for preservation (otherwise, it is not preservation at all!) But this also benefits people that would rather read the instrutions in their own language if it is available. Thanks!

Antiriad: Cool. Thanks very much. Perhaps we should put the request for other systems games on the main page... ST/PC/other....

Fiath..... these scans.

I have done these scans (about 10 pages to go) trying to stick to the scanning guide as much as I can.

at 300DPI, they are 1924x2548 (2-2.5MB each page)... can I just resize them or shall I leave them as is ?

That is quite large, storage wise... Do they have lots of detail? Are you saving as compressed TIFF's or PNG'?

But no, don't resize them.

Thanks!

PNG. Scanned, Rotated and saved straight to PNG. No cropping or processing of ANY kind. the FRONT and BACK had to be scanned as colour, the rest are greyscale because of the hand scetches.

Mostly text, 3 pages has a picture of the screen (Black and white, each language) but nearly each page has a hand drawn pic of a "monster".

36 files, 66MB.

Example of the art... http://www.iinet.net.au/~aimee/art.jpg
