Serial file transfers with a Raspberry Pi (guide)
Hi,
I've written up a short guide on how I've set up a Raspberry Pi to handle bidirectional transfers between my Amiga and hosts on my network. This post is just about using screen and Term to transfer back and forth. I'm planning on following it up with a modern PPP writeup for Raspbian Stretch. I wasn't sure whether this belong in support.hardware (as it's not really asking for support), so I've posted it here. Apologies if I've got it wrong. |

Are you sure support.otherUAE is the right place? UAE doesn't really come into it.

This section is where the majority of "Raspberry Pi" discussion takes place
I'm no expert, but Raspberry Pi definitely isn't "Amiga hardware" and you can run various different non-Amiga systems on it as far as I'm aware. For Amiga related stuff, doesn't it use an emulator to a certain degree? |

Serial file transfers with a Raspberry Pi (guide)
This belongs more to "how to network an Amiga with a Linux system", the Linux system in this case just happening to be a Raspberry Pi. It could be anything running Linux, really.
There should be some "support.networking" for this kind of stuff... |

I think I see where you're coming from DamienD.
The post is about my physical Amiga 4000 and me getting sick of writing DVDs to address library dependencies. I used a Raspberry Pi as a terminal service with screen instead of the more common minicom, and transferred files in and out of my network with rz and sz. That's why I was a bit confused about the UAE reference. The Pi is just a Linux system - if you had screen and rs/sz for Windows or Mac, it'd work with that too. The only reason I'm using a Pi is because I had one lying around to dedicate to doing support work for the Amiga as I expand it. |

There is another use of RPi... to read and write ADFs! Very versatile bit of kit. Always wondered if you could somehow use it to simulate hardware lacking e.g. ethernet/internet, HDD, ROM switcher etc

My plan is to use the RPi as a kind of sidecar system. I've got PPP working now. I'm using it with python's SimpleHTTPServer as a staging area for downloading to the box as Github's still causing problems.
After writing up the PPP setup and getting an FTP server running on the Pi, I'm setting up Cups-LPD and a network printer to print to pdf and my downstairs canon from final writer. I'll also run Samba on the Pi and use the Pi to stitch animations together with ffmpeg. |

This is out of date but here is a guide I wrote:
http://c0dedbad.co.uk/raspberrypi-amiga-ppp/ Might be useful? My non-ethernet A4000 is out of action right now. |

I did see your tutorial and it was really helpful. In the end I went a slightly circuitous, but ultimately working route with AmiTCP/GENESiS on OS3.9, but I definitely couldn't have done it without your tutorial, thanks!
