3DNature WCS Open Source

3DNature released the source code for World Construction Kit in 2015/2016.
The Amiga version you can build with sas/c. github repository.

did anyone try to build it? it does build indeed.

there are some script files you have to start, before you can invoke 'smake' .
one support library you have to rebuild with same CPU type as the main program.

cannot remember exactly all steps, but it was easy enough.

btw. I was reading about Scala as a possible candidate for the public domain.

Yes, I tried a rebuild and as you wrote it does build indeed.
But what scripts are you referig to?

I build libvgl first for the 68881, copied the lib to the upper dierectory and ran smake again.
I had to crate a file in envarc: wich seems to be used as serial number an finally one file is damaged. (WCSObjs.lnk) It contains alot of zeros at the end which must be removed once manually.
Then smake succeeded and the resulting binary seems to be ok according to a few short test renderings.

I have some problems with interpolating DEMs however. (even with the original binary from the disimages provided bei 3dnature) It tells me the files are not DEM files...

The program is not so easy to use...

SelectBuild.rexx, it deals with the BuildID/env thing.
I thought there was another one, but I cannot find atm.

ah, yes, there were some files with some random letters at the begin (or end?) of the files.
I had to remove the ramdom things from the files.

I learned from some lightwave plugin, there are differnt types of DEM files, those "original" and those vista-DEMs.
maybe not all types supported by WCS.

yes, too many options - Vista was easier to use, and faster rendering

Sometimes it really helps to have the source available!

Reason for my DEM-problem found.

It says:
Error opening file for interpolation!
File not DEM or REM
Continue?

The code checks the filename extension for beeing "elev" or "relel". But in my fresh installation (???, need to double check) all these files are upper case!

Fixed -> problem gone.
I will change the code to be case-independent here.
