Commodore 1010 Boing Ball?

Came across this Commodore 1010 external floppy drive but instead of the Amiga check mark it has the boing ball. Best of all the drive still works.

I've read on the forum that the Boing Ball was discontinued and replaced by the check mark but any other information will be pretty much appreciated.
Here are some pics

Yep, the original team had boing ball stickers made, their personal systems had those in there.

Dave Haynie also had a stash of them, he gave them out with copies of The Deathbed Vigil video.

Seems like you have a pre-series 1010 there.
