Turrican comparison...
Super Turrican 1 on the SNES was a real Turrican game as it used the exact same character sprite of Turrican from Turrican 3 & Mega Turrican.
You could say it was Turrican 4 or a prequel of Turrican, as it mixed elements from all previous games & added new enemy sprites & levels. But Super Turrican 2 on the SNES was a completely new game. Different Turrican Character spite, new enemies, game-play & level lay out. Turrican 2 on the AMIGA is my favorite. I love the 360 degrees rotating weapon. I don't understand why they removed it after Turrican 2. (Even though the Turrican 1 rotating laser looked more sinister ) Its Ironic that Mega Turrican had better graphics than the A500 version; I remember AMIGA fans bashing the Mega Drives graphic capabilities. I still don't know how they managed the multi coloured background of level1-Turrican 2, with only 32colours. AMIGA wonderful machine…. Turrican 2 PC by Sunsoft is probably the best version of Turrican on any system. Plays & sounds as good as the Amiga version & has 256colours. What can beat that? |

I always foudn multicolor copper backgrounds to be lame shit, they look terrible. I prefer a good layer of simple clored parallax.

Super Turrican 2 rant
I think I've written this in another Turrican-thread before. Anyway, here I go again: What makes the Turrican series addictive for me is the exploration - hunting for secret passages, hidden powerblocks and of course finding the exit.
Enter Super Turrican 2: I should have never ever played this drivel in Champi (a Snes emulator) - but I just could not resist. ST2 picked up the 'less positive' features of earlier games and created special levels for it: Levels focussed on using grapling hooks, levels with only rotating heavy-pixelled end-bosses, levels with worthless 3-D into-the screen-with-bad-collision-detection-lose-all-your-lives-and-your-continues-are-gone-too action and so on. The exploration which makes the Turrican-titles so good is really, really missing here. This game really has destroyed my fondness of the series. |

IMO 99% of copper backgrounds do indeed look horrendous. The developers seemed to think it was necessary to use every colour possible just because they could :/
I always thought Turrican 2 was one of the few games that made good use of copper backgrounds. A nice simple, subtle copper background that complements the 'real' graphics instead of making the whole thing look like technicolour puke. |

the black terrain effects against the copper background are a good example of "how to make it look good"

Back then, when I was a PC user/gamer, I always heared about the beautifull copper BG's... well, what's the big deal? I too never liked them! most of the times they did not fit on the scenery much, it's just too colorfull...
I too think that the Turrican2 PC is the best Turrican2 you can play.... |

Rainbow copper sucks.. Looks real dated nowadays. :-)
At least Robocod had some nice shapes that showed up in the copper, depending on what height our bionic fishy friend was currently residing at. :-) |

Lion Heart also used copper BG's & it looks amazing! Did it only use 32 colours? It looks more like 256! It's amazing how Thalion achieved that.
This is probably the best looking AMIGA game. It looks even better than some AGA games. Is there a way to play Turrican 2 PC on WindowsXP with full soundblaster support? I tried DosBox but it wont go past the title screen. |

Because all their other games came on one disk as well and they didn't wanted to break with that "tradition", as silly as that might be...

Concerning gameplay, I think that T2-Amiga was the best, but don't forget the C=64 miracles, called T1 & T2! I've never played the MegaDrive or PC versions, I've no doubt that they may look brilliant, but the feeling of the C=64 is incomparable, IMHO, even better than the Amiga one!
