Cloanto ROM 3.X Floopy Disk Problem

i recently purchased ROM 3.X Amiga 1200 (two chips) Cloanto.

As you may know due to lack of workbench library in the ROM3.X, after installing ROM chips you should copy workbench.library files to your boot volume's LIBS: dir. For this purpose when i tried to read a floopy that holds wb.lib. files, an error came up... then i realized that every floopy i insert just cannot be read because of Non-DOS disk Error

I opened an issue ticket to my seller waiting their answer etc,

Do you have same or similar problem with Cloanto ROM3.X ?

I don't know anything about the 3.x ROM but shouldn't you have copied the workbench.library files to your boot volume's LIBS: dir before swapping the ROM's?

You may have already done that but it isn't clear from the post, if you didn't copy the workbench.library files before swapping the ROMs then maybe try swapping the originals and copy the files then try again with the new ROMs.

At least it will eliminate one possibility

Thanks for your answer.

i might have copy that file before installing new rom chips, but i am not sure would it change anything? my point is Cloanto ROM 3.X has some issues with floopy drives.

If you put the original chips back, does the floppy work O.K?

You beat me to it Arnie, I was just about to post this :-

After thinking about it, the floppy should be able to read workbench disks and the likes if you have the right version of the ROMs for the Amiga you are fitting them into. If as you say the drive is coming up with a Non-DOS disk Error, then either the ROMs are not seated properly or are not working correctly or even something like the floppy cable is not connected properly (if you didn't remove the cable you can discard that option).

What Amiga do you have? Maybe someone else can give a better reply to your problem, it is possible to damage ROMs if you are not wired for static discharge while handling them which is another possibility.

I would probably put the old ROMs back in and see if the floppy drive works OK, if it does then that at least lets you know that it is the new ROMs that are at fault. It is the easiest way to start fault finding in a situation like this.

I put my old roms back everthing is OK.
if i re-kick to 40.68 with remapollo while New roms (Cloanto ROM3.X) in place, again everthing is OK.

My setup :

I have a similar problem with Cloanto 3.X ROMs. I have an Apollo 1230 fitted. I have found that disabling the Fast RAM on the 1230 (either by setting the jumper or by removing the SIMMs) then the floppy drive problem goes away. So with 3.X ROMs, you can have Fast RAM, or a working floppy drive, but not both.

Definitely a 3.X ROM issue. It's all fine if I go back to 3.1 ROMs.

I exchanged some emails with the kickstart rom developer.
He is already looking into the matter.

Hi, I was wondering if there has been any headway on this problem? I just installed the roms in my A4000D last night and all my floppy drives stopped reading including gotek drives, I haven't submitted a ticket with Amigastore.eu yet but I wanted to see if there was any progress or resolution before I do. I haven't ripped out my fastram yet to test that theory but I'll probably try it once. I hope it's something they can fix in software, I'd hate to wait for over 2weeks again for new roms.
