I had my first Amiga experience when my dad bought the A600 when it came out around '92 (being a whole 6 years old at the time). I got to play various games that came out on the coverdisks, mostly demos and PD stuff.
I didn't get an Amiga of my own until about 2007 when I managed to get an A1200 at a car boot sale, which I upgraded over the next 7 years with various goodies - HDD(old 2GB laptop drive), accelerator card(Blizzard Mk.IV 030/FPU 32MB), CF support via PCMCIA, external VGA adapter(which is mostly average but does the job well enough). |

I'm interested in the reason to buy an Amiga after the year 2000. I always thought it's only a nostalgia thing for us but is there another reason to desire one after the fall of Commodore?

It's still good for games, classic pixelart and many PD games.

I got my (1st) Amiga 600 at the end of 2001. After seeing "State Of The Art" by Spaceballs and discovering AMOS Basic my interest in programming had been re-ignited. (I had done some programming in Basic for the ZX Spectrum in the early 90's but gave up as it was incredibly slow and I was distracted with playing games on the Super NES and Megadrive games consoles)
Over the last few years I have gained more knowledge about computers, including more knowledge about the Amiga hardware. |

June 1988.
A500, no software included, just workbench 1.2, kick 1.2. Philips CM8833 as monitor. A500 was replaced a month later because it sometimes failed to start. Replacement was a kick 1.3 machine, initially annoying due to backwards compatibility but that was soon overcome! A501 came a few weeks later, followed by an A1010. Golden era it was, incessant supply of new and always better games and productivity software (WP4.1 and dBase III) And despite getting in 1994 an A4000/040 (seriously pimped out a year later), and which blew my mind, it still never made me as nostalgic/impressed as my good old A500. And everything still works today in 2014, 26 years later, try that with today's hardware! |

I was a bit late to the game, got my A1200 in 1994. But I had been exposed to a couple of friends Amiga's since about 1992.

After saving up for quite some time and selling my C64 , I got mine in very late 89. My friend had gotten his about a year and a half before though, so I had used one a bit before that.

I didn't know whether to vote for the year my mum purchased an Amiga, or the year I first owned my own, so I went with the former, 1989. Also I'm not 100% on exactly when I bought my own A500 a few years later, I think 1993 sounds about right, as I got a fairly souped up A500+A590 cheap as the previous owner had just upgraded to a new A1200. But it might have been as late as '94 or even '95.
