Team17's Amiga 4000 has been found

Hi guys, a few months ago I received an Incredible donation from one of the original developers on worms 1 and 2. Fast forward to today and I recently uploaded a video sharing the adventure of exploring a real Team 17 worms Amiga 4000. I know posting links is frowned upon here but if you wish to join us on the adventure feel free to seek out my channel.

I hope you agree that finding this piece of history is newsworthy. Particularly as this forum was instrumental in getting it working. You'll see more about that in the video. Thanks to everyone that helped!

Eek [Video] Team17's original A4000 with Worms files

Seeing as Perifractic (Starglider 2 here) mentioned EAB in his most recent video, I thought there should be a post here about the video. I didn't find one so looks like I'm making one for you (mods please delete if there is already a thread that I missed, thanks).

Anyway, a former developer for Team17 dug out some of his old hardware from his time with the company and did a video with Perifractic on his Retro Recipes Youtube channel.

EDIT: Looks like Starglider 2/Perifractic just posted about it in the News forum so this post can be deleted. Seems I can't do it myself though.

***************** mod edit: Rather than deleting your post, I have merged it into Starglider 2's thread.***************

Not really. The issue is with people creating a new thread for each new video/article, potentially drowning some sub-forums and making other channels/news sites less visible only because they produce content less often.

Terrific video.
I enjoyed Lightwave part a lot.
Chris did outstanding job with these animations back then, all the modeling, rigging. textures, lightning, animations and render.
Looks pretty good, even today... the editing of the shots was superb.

Thanks! I loved have the opportunity to showcase his and everyone's hard work. They made it look so easy in the finished FMV sequences.

Believe me, its not.
I am doing 3D for my living almost 2 decades, and year a go, for the fun, I started playing with Lightwave 5, on my winuae ultra mega super A4000 , and while it was relatively easy to figure out almost every single option (todays 3d apps are much more complex), its just very uncomfortable to work with, todays standard.
Let me point just one thing:
There is no undo in the editor.

All in all, to be able to produce animation of the quality of Worms, anybody would have to invest lots of time, trials and errors, and render tests.

Thanks for the great video mate.

Its great its saved, but a couple of things.

1). I hope the comment about Ocean being a "small distributor" was sarcasm as Ocean were magnitudes much bigger than Team 17.

2). Whats with the dubbed voice? It doesn't look or sound natural at all.

Other than that, great video, surprised the guy bothered to take an Amiga A4000 with him to the US as by then it was highly unlikely to be used in any capacity as the PC had finally taken over, but glad he did, or it would probably be lost forever.

I guess you're not used to my deadpan humor yet!

(The voice isn't dubbed. You can see the mic that recorded it on the desk.)

Yes it's a small miracle that this machine exists!

Dare to share the hard drive images? I’d be curious looking through the source or developer notes. Thanks, nice video!

I am interested in content of that hard disk and floppies too. I wonder is there only worms stuff? Or maybe some prototypes, models, demos, materials from other released and unreleased games

Great rescue/find and a great video!

Re the monitor settings:

It looks like the modes that didn't display well were some of the DBL*** / Multiscan modes. I've never heard of an A1084 that can't sync to both regular NTSC and regular PAL, and if that had been the problem the display would have rolled but been stable horizontally.

My memory might be incorrect, but as I recall you can simply remove/move the non-displayable monitor definitions from DEVS:Monitors. Not 100% sure if that just removes them from the screen mode requesters or if it also forces existing screen mode selections to switch to one of the definitions that's actually in DEVS:Monitors.

Can't remember the name of the program, but there were some utility which made it possible to force other screen modes than the default/selected on various application. Really intended for switching to more "modern" modes with old software lacking any "modern" screen mode selection, but would work with "modern" programs too (although discouraged as it would be better to use the screen mode selector within the "modern" programs if possible).

I assume that most if not all programs that open their own screens would need to have the screen mode changed, so unless you have some multiscan/"vga-ish" monitor to hook it up to you might save some work by solving the screen mode issue for all programs in one go.
