amiga rtc fix
ok i had a problem with a proccesor card where the rtc(real time clock)was loosing time,5 minutes a day to be exact.
my solution was very simple.so i thought i would share it with you. WARNING:soldering knowledge required.if you dont have basic knowledge in this field dont read on. with that out the way.lets begin. you will need: a soldering iron(temprature controlled preferably) 1 analogue wall clock the one's that take a single AA cell(no im not joking) 1 amiga accelorator fitted with a rtc battery backed clock(goes without saying really) 1 de-solder sucker some solder 1 set of small screwdrivers ok dismantle the wall clock and locate the machenism. dismantle that until you have the pcb which will have a two pronged crystal(through hole not smd)and a solaniod. de-solder the crystal.and bin everything else. now desolder the crystal from your card, use your solder sucker to remove the solder from the holes.then solder in the crystal from the wall clock. NOTE:the crystal in the clock may be 2 times the phisical size of the one on your card.take no notice of this it does exactly the same job. and thats it.plug in set the clock turn off.turn back on check the time is set correctly.it should keep perfect time just like it did when it was in the wall clock. above all be carefull soldering. even though its a very simple fix. regards roy. |

nice hack.
iirc, (usually) there is also a tiny potentiometer to 'fine tune' the clock, have you tried that first? |

nah dident try it that way i wanted to find a fast way to fix the problem.also i havent seen one with an option to fine tune it to be honest well not one i can remember. this is a less time consuming,easy-er also more universal way of doing it.which in turn makes it more friendly to fix.also peaple may have one knocking about surplus to requirement(mine was in my shed with a broken face) by that mean i havent seen a card that doesent have a crystal to genarate the tick for the rtc ic.on an amiga anyway. EDIT:-just seen one(at home and on eab) with fine adjust.on the whole though there fixed and non adjustable. regards roy. Last edited by roy bates; 08 October 2011 at 11:05. |
