Apollo 1260 repair

Hi, my 1260 was working fine until i simply removed it and put it back in my 1200, now it doesnt work. Is there anybody who knows how to repair these boards ?.

Have tried reseating the 060 and the mach chips but no avail.

Cheers.
Paul.

Hi!

Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the motherboard and Apollo? Use IPA and an old tooth brush and give them a good once over.

Also had the battery been removed and if so was there (or is there) and sign of leakage?

Photo's might help too.

All the best,

Steve.

Sometimes moving the card a bit in the slot helps. You may also try reseating memory module(s).

Solved it. Looks like the contacts between the board and the little power converter board are a bit dodgy.
Feel a bit daft now spent the last couple of days reseating chips and memory modules and didnt even give that little board a seconds thought .

Depending on what position the board is in decides how far the 1200 will boot, one position it wont boot at all, another it will only display the insert disk screen. But if i get it just right it will boot into workbench.

None of the pins look loose, maybe a dry joint ?. Has anybody had any luck soldering these directly to the main board ?.

If you have a towered A1200, someone recently pointed out that if you replace the module with connections direct to an ATX PSU then the board (with the right 060) will run stable much faster.

Great tip Alexh! I'm very interested in this. Is there a pinout for this connector saying which voltages is required where?

OK, so you remove the board completely (not needed anymore) to reveal the following pins (squares should make it obvious, but orientation is like you see it when you lift off the lid of the A1200)

NOTE that the picture is not complete, 15 and 16 is also GND!

I am about to connect my PicoPSU this way.

If you want to know where to connect a 5V fan, it was connected to pin 12 (5V) and 15 (GND) on my Apollo. It's not hard to guess that pins 9-12 are in fact all 5V, and there are 4 pins connected to GND as roy said, not only pin 15.

Many Apollo 1260 / 40 suffer from faulty oscillator 50MHZ - these dying like flies and crystal sockets are not perfect too.
