CDROM Driver help/settings
hi
I've been having problems getting a CDROM to work properly on my A1200 3.1 KS with 3.0 Workbench installed. I'm using a Eyetech 4 way device (can't remember model but it's a pretty common one). I'm using 3.5 HD on the first IDE connector and the CDROM is connected to the second IDE pins. I've tried three different CDROMs and different selections (Master/S/C) and I still keep getting the following error message (when booting -up) 'CDROM Handler Error' "Cannot open "atapi device" unit 3 (or depending on the jumper settings the unit number changes.) The software I have used is: "EZ-IDE Amiga CDROM driver and IDE Enhancement program" However the above software didn't acknowledge the CDROM's presence. I then used the following: "The Eyetech A1200 CDplus Installation Diskette" After installation of this software I started getting the above error reporting (as already describe) I also tried to set the cdrom up manually through DF0:Eyetech/CDROM/C/Findcd It reported the following message: 'atapi.device seems not to function properly' It did however find and display the make of CDROM player. I'm sure I had this problem before 'many moons ago' but i can't remember nor have i had any luck in finding a similar thread on EAB. |

try putting the cdrom on the second ide port then get Asimcdfs install disk. there is a program on the disk called scsi inquire. it will show the devices that you have installed then it will show which device number it is located on.

Try editing the CD0 file in dosdrivers folder and setting the UNIT to 2.

I think it must be software as I've tried 3 different IDE adaptors (2 Eyetech style and an 'upright' one (Power computing type), the original HD (3.9wb) and another HD with 3.0wb and umpteen cd-drives . I have the HD (3.5) on IDE 1 and CDrom (Standard type) on IDE (2) using: M/S/C. Also tried CDrom as a Slave/Cable on IDE (1). Was at all Sunday
I'll try the dosdrivers Thanks for the advice guys much appreciated |
