A4000 - Does this battery need to be replaced?

After years of abstinence (!) I got myself an A4000... and immediately started to have nightmares after reading horror stories about the battery leakages and damaged mainboards.

Can some experienced guy look at the picture and comment on it?
Does the battery need to be replaced or was it already?

Thanks in advance!

Take it off, whilst you're at it clean the green gunk from the surrounding area - you can see lots on the legs of the neighbouring IC's.

That looks quite bad, as paul said theres corrosion all round the clock circuit. It could have also spread to the underside of the board and under the bottom simm socket.

Are you able to save the clock data in prefs?

@FOL: good catch! no, I'm not able to save the clock data, when I reboot the machine the time/date is always set to 11:11 11/11/11

Thanks guys, I'm going to replace the battery.
I'm ok with soldering so it's not a big issue, even if I didn't want to touch the beauty so soon

While I'm at it: what's the best way to clean up the gunk in the area?

If you can't save the clock data then the SMD IC to the left of the battery has probably gone AWOL

Very clean job Cosmos, that board was very damaged, good show on the scrape back and repair of vias too. The only thing I do differently is that I have a file with a sharpened end, I use that to scrape back solder resist.

Contact cleaner works well, but for sure the cotton buds are a must. You must neutralize absolutely all of it to ensure no further damage is done.

When you find a Classic (or watch on your actual Amiga), NEVER turn it ON : watch/check the battery and all the capacitors first !

If leaking : change/restore them and after only power ON !
