More flexible Vsync support to include Sync rates very close to 50hz

I have been fighting this for a while now, and can't get the screen to Vsync at rates very close to 50hz (50.022hz and 49.997hz).

Both rates seem fine initially but after a few minutes music slows down for a couple of seconds, then resumes. This cycle repeats as long as Vsync is enabled.

I have to chose between the above effect or have screen tearing with perfect music playback.

I have started a support thread ( http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=58454 ) if you have any suggestions, but have also posted here for a request.

Thanks for all your amazing work Toni!

Have you tried if Double Buffer instead of Tripple Buffer makes any difference? I've played through a few games with current WinUAE versions in 50 Hz+Vsync on my Plasma, and got no sound problems at all.

Yes, I have tried both double and triple buffering.

What graphics card/drivers/os are you using please?

If you are using powerstrip to adjust your Vsync, is it exactly 50.000hz?

Thanks

It's an ATI Radeon HD 5570. The Plasma is probably exact at 50.00 Hz, my CRT monitor runs at 49,9Hz. Both works fine in Vsync. I don't use Powerstrip, you can add custom resolutions/refresh rates manually via driver (nVidia) or through the registry (ATI). You could try to increase the priority to "above normal".

Sound driver/card can also cause problems with vsync if it has timing problems.

Also WASAPI usually works better than DirectSound but it is only supported in Vista and later Windows versions.

Common "problem": "works fine here", can't fix problems that I can't see.

I will try the "above normal" setting as I haven't tried that one yet!

Thanks Retro

I appreciate that Toni, I'm not sure where I should go from here. I will keep trying and report back if I find a solution. Out of the two options I think screen tearing, although not very Amiga like, is the lesser of two evils for me.

Thanks again

Good to hear. Too slow PC, or maybe too many programs running in the background?

Well its pretty lean and mean MicroXP install with only these background tasks:

Maximus Arcade
Winuae Loader
Powerstrip
RealVNC

I have tried it with everything killed except Winuae loader, same results - so Im not really sure what the culprit was!

Core2Duo 2.4ghz
2gb ram
8800gtx

I dont usually have any issues, ie I can run street fighter 4 with all eye candy @ 1600x1200 60fps.

Im huge Amiga fan and have spent quite a bit of time getting it all configured just right in my arcade cab - I didn't want slurring sound or screen tearing - I wanted the games in all their glory.

Now I have it

Just rocking out to the Turrican 2 title music, as this was one of the tracks that always slowed down, not any more!

Thanks again!
