Angry A500 PSU ticking inside?????

Hello!

I've just bought a new A500 PSU to plug in my CD32+SX32 to have more power

I've cut the A500 connector for testing the voltage of the wires to adapt my CD32 connector on it

The problem is that when i've powered on the PSU, it was ticking inside........

I've tested the wires and then i've seen that i've the +5V but not the +12V
The fuse is good...

What do you think about that???

Is it dead?????

Thanks

My A500 PSU doesn't tick, but it does whine once in a while.

@Mrbob2 -> Do you have the heavy A500 PSU or the light one????

I don't want to plug it if it's ticking on my old CD32 because i have fear to blow it..

Run away from it in slow motion yelling NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! and then jump as it explodes.

That's exactly what I was thinking. How'd you guess? As you're jumping (also in slow motion) the explosion behind you grows into a giant flameball which you somehow manage to dive to avoid as it blasts over your head. You get up slowly (strangely not in slow motion any more) and turn to look at the devestated building behind you, dusting off the bits of broken glass. This is where you have the option either to have tragically emotional music come out of nowhere or you are obliged to make some kind of smart-assed one-liner joke (you can't have both).

In the case of an exploding A500 PSU, I'd go for the tragic music.

I've just measured the continuity from the A500 plug back to where I cut the cable to get to know which color cable has what value.
Then I just soldered the DIN 4 plug like it should.
I noticed that there were 2 cables connected to the +5V so I connected both to the DIN 4 plug.
I've used the lighter 4.5A version PSU.

Heavy psu or light one? erm, its kinda heavy lol. It was from an a500+ cartoon classics bundle i got in `92. god knows what the origonal colour was but it looks like a chain smoker has locked themselves in a room with it for 10 years. yuck, yellow and brown. I dont smoke and it still looks manky. I have no real use for it now as i have winuae and amiga emulator on my gp2x and a tv out adaptor so i can still play games on my tv yay. Amiga 500 still works ok tho, 14 years on! amazin

That is just what happens to C= plastic under constant exposure to UV radiation. You (unlike most of us Amiga users) must have actually opened your curtains from time to time.
