FS-UAE: currently inaccesible winUAE features

has the code for currently inaccessible functionality of winUAE (such as sampleripper, etc) been removed from the source code?

or could one simply add a second menu that gives access to those functions ?

i like the idea of the SDL gui, takes away all the headache associated with building gtk, qt, or the other toolkit-of-the-day.
however having those functions available in a "specials" menu would be nice.

FS-UAE contains more or less all source code from WinUAE, but not all of it is compiled, and not all of the compiled code is used either. The way it works is that nothing from WinUAe works automatically -i.e. nothing has been removed as such.

So in general, I must excplicitly add support for each new feature (which could be a little job, or a huge job, depending on the feature). Also, a lot of WinUAE code is win32-specific.

Regarding "sampleripper", I haven't look at what it is or what is does...

glad to hear.

the sampleripper saves wav files for most samples that are used.
there's also an integrated mod ripper, and other useful stuff (such as saving a memory dump instead of a statefile), or using a action replay rom. or creating empty floppies, hdd files, etc etc.

it would be nice if these functions were available for non-windows users as well, especially if you have source code based on upstream winuae.
the old E-UAE can do the basic stuff as well... its mostly the other features that currently make winUAE much superior.

i dont think that this functionality should be put into a separate tool ("launcher"). it should be accessible through the SDL gui.

i thought about porting winuae to linux a year ago myself and i would have done the same thing - SDL + openal, no other deps which make building from source a PITA.

do you have a git repo somewhere ? it would be interesting to watch your commits, so that one can see how you backport upstream code changes.
