You do realize that in his role as AVGN he reviews bad games, right? Thats the whole reason of that character, he doesnt need to be objective.
Its just about fun. Dont take it personally that its a cd32 this time.

I'm not a specialist. But he did review Castlevania or Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES which are far from being bad games for me.

But maybe it's just me and my shitty taste.

I don't know these reviews. But in general you should consider that his channel is about his taste in games, not yours .

He's a big fan of the NES, still he has a very long list of videos where he covers "shitty" games from it.
The CD32 is new in his videos. Perhaps he will review a mediocre or even good game at some point for the CD32, who knows ?

In any case, he's the "angry video game nerd", so nothing nice to expect.

And to be honest, this time, I don't blame the nerd for doing what he did: (The) Town With No Name is so cheesy in terms of animations, graphics and dialogue that it deserves to be treated this way. I doubt those 3D animations are actual polygon renderings, but streamed animations.
I'm fairly sure the 32 has the pcb inside when it gets toasted - if you pause the video when AVGN puts it on the bench you can see the surface mounted mouse/joystick ports showing at the side.

At least, he burnt CD32 case, not a CDTV. Both machines are crap, but I like CDTV more.
CDTV lives up to it's development name though (Beauty).

The build quality on the CDTV is light years ahead of the CD32 - it's like comparing a Sony ES CD Player with something from Fisher Price. CDTV is a mix of 1000 build quality with the 'modern' upgrades with the 500. Pain in the arse to upgrade on the otherhand... but it wasn't about that anyway.

would say that using some of the crappiest games, even though for comedic/dramatic effect, took away some bite from his rant .... but that aside, I generally agree with the overall gist of what he was getting at

Even if so, that was a different CD32 that he chucked into the dumpster and then burnt (it has a white Commodore logo compared to the one he showed with the paint can on top) - it was most likely broken before he got hold of it.

Beside CD32 punishment at the end - this episode was somewhat boring, compared to the previous one.

Yeah, it looks like he had 2 CD32s. I made a quick comparison.

I have the feeling they did used Videoscape rather than Sculpt 3d/Lightwave, due to the fact that could use indexed colors and not HAM, and Videoscape did not support texturing.

Sculpt 3D can render in indexed color mode (called "painting" as opposed to the raytraced "snapshot" and "photo" modes.) Also, both the title screen and various menus were rendered in HAM mode with shading and shadows: [ Show youtube player ] at 2:13, something Videoscape 3D couldn't do.

I think I would have enjoyed that second episode more if I hadn't watched that long play of The Town With No Name between the two AVGN episodes, which kinda spoiled it.

Off-topic: Welp. Looks like somebody else (not AVGN) does not like Putty Squad at all. Also, short references to Zool and Super Frog.

And he is acting. This is a role.
Indeed, the channel has different videos in different formats. The dude is actually the most down to earth reviewer I've seen yet, I especially enjoy his movie review stuff. In the other recurring shows he often refers to "the nerd" as something other than himself, AVGN is basically mr. Hyde.

We are all waitin' for Gimbal's YT channel...

I find AVGN voice just too annoying... can't watch too long.

Besides "The Nerd" he also has "Board James" which is another character to review Board games.

And then videos where he is just himself and its easy to see he has nothing to do with "the Nerd".
