Amiga 500 revision 6
There seems to be a trend to favor this specific revision of A500, but what are the reasons behind this? Compatibility, stability....what's the thing that makes this revision click?

I have tried to find info on the net, but haven't found anything that backs up the "greatness" of a rev 6 board. Eg. is a rev 6 mobo better than a rev 8 one and why?
Someone must have an answer, but the one guru that does seems to meditate... |

I think the rev. 6 was the first one you could upgrade to 1M chip memory, that's probably why it's sought after. I've never heard of any kind of compatibility problems, where some software would run on a rev. 6 but not on a rev. 3 with the otherwise same specs, it doesn't make much sense.
I didn't even know there was a rev. 8 A500 motherboard, I thought the rev. 8 ones were all A500+? |

Not all, some were adapted to A500, probably Commodore had shortage of A500 mobos. And there was also a scarce rev.7 mobo.

Good to know this info .
Like zipper said - taken from BBOAH: "Later A500's may use the same motherboard revisions that the A500+ used, including the ECS chipset. This was probably during a transition period when moving from the standard A500 to the standard A500+. Commodore often used 'old stock' to save money. Apparently you can spot Rev 8/ECS based A500s my checking the logo near the LEDs. If it's an A500 logo instead of a commodore logo, then it's a newer A500." |
