I just found something old...

I was tidying out my old cd-r's 2nite and found....
an old backup of a cd a mate of mine an me were working on for about 2 years!!!
we used to run an old amiga bbs called digital candy back in the 90's, well we bought it from someone, but you get the idea, and I've got what could be the only copy of a cd we were in the process of making/selling called "Scene Storm II". The previous owners produced volume 1, and we laboured hard to get version 2 finished, but it never happened!

So, my question is, what should I do now? Should I try and finish it off, and market it/sell it whatever? Or what do you reckon? I may get some artwork sorted, get it all ready, and just sell copies on a made to order basis. If I ask nicely, the missus could let me use her shiny Epson R300 to print the cd-r's and covers...

So, please let me know guys...that's an A600 and a cd compilation re-discovered in the last couple of weeks!

Is there anything on it which you cannot "get" nowdays?

If so then feel free, but if the contents are easily/freely available nowdays I wouldn't bother and just release the ISO as-is!

I do have the Scene Storm CD too. And I just dug out PFS3 CD which includes the game Kang Fu. Haven't tried out.

They would, but generally people don't want to pay for something which is just a collection of files that they could get elsewhere easily enough!

Lets face it the Amiga is a dead system now so unless it is revolutionary don't expect to make any cash!

heheh - not worried about making cash, just the best way of sharing the files!?!?!
at 600+ meg Internet distribution might not be the best way of doing things, but I'm perfectly willing to burn cd's, make nice covers and print the discs so people can use the files....

Why not just uploading the .iso to one of the FTP's kept by some of peeps here? like kombat santa's or someone elses?

Just my 2 cents (not euros) worth about the subject..

And if you can, you could put it on some torrent tracker...

yeah, I could do that. I will take a look at the stuff on the cd, make sure it's all ok and ftp it somewhere....
I have a homeserver, I may just stick it up on there and people can grab it if and when they like

I would suggest i if you are thinking of distributing a CD image or archive would be either bit torrent or emule/edonkey. just put the archive file in your emule/edonkey share and then you can create an emule/edonkey (ed2k) link to the file that you can post here. the beauty of tis that unlike torrent, once enough people are downloading or sharing the file, the file will exist on the network even after you pull it from your share and unlike torrent, though it is arguably slower to obtain the file, it is not reliant on a tracker for the file being maintained.

the one thing I am not up on is the availability of bit torrent or emule clients for the amiga so might need to be downloaded via a windows machine.

dondilly - not really looked into distribution through p2p networks, and again, I can see it being a problem if there are no Amiga clients!
I think I may just get a quick website up for it, host it on my homeserver and go from there....

I was thinking mainly from a bandwidth POV.
doing one to one transfers from your DSL is obviously a no no/ Even if you set up a webpage somewhere, if it is a typical CD size and each person grabs a copy from your site, the bandwidth usage soon gets swallowed up.

My thoughts on P2P , the two methods I mentioned are that for example with emule, say you were distributing a 700mb CD image.Your bandwidth usuage is minimised each downloaders client as it completes the download of a 10mb packet, it makes it available to the other userswhich reduces the load on your line.
As for the availability of amiga clients, how many people here have an amiga as their sole machine

hehehehe - I got your point completely dondilly...what I meant was, once the website is up, I can look at the other distribution methods!!!
Like I said, I haven't looked too hard at distribution yet. If I do a website, I can also split up the CD into sections to help bandwidth problems...
