Well, I'm about as far as one can get from Michigan and still be in Ohio... I'm in Cincinnati. I hear there are still some Amiga lovers in Dayton, too.

Thumbs up A1200 on Ebay

Hiya All,
I just bought a A1200 off ebay from a guy in Kent for £48.00 and £18.00 postage. The machine arrived ok only thing is the Ctrl Amiga Amiga reset doesnt work and I may need to get a new keyboard.

I opened up the machine and took the keyboard out and checked the contacts and couldnt find a thing wrong with the membrane or the key contacts there is only one key that seems not to work and I cannot figure out why as the contacts are okay! its a mystery to me.

So whatz all the high prices being paid for A1200's $100 dollars is about £75 or something so then I must have got a bargain for £48.00 .

Now if anyone there has an Amiga 1200 Spare keyboard going... and why does the Hard drive not boot up straight away when I turn the machine on... then after I turn it of an on again the Hard Drive boots... this is real flaky stuff!

That's normal. Your Amiga is not flaky. But it's best to open another thread as this is for eBay auction not problem hardware. BTW, Welcome to EAB.

I traded my 500+ in for a 1200 in the early or mid nineties, but now it seems the 500+ is much more sought after! Or do I mean THE 500 PLUSS

On Ebay you can find good things but also a lot of stupid thiefs and stupid people who pay XXXXXX euro, pounds or dollars for a A500, a CD32 game or for everything related to Amiga...

Hope this kind of people will "dissapear" from the markets.

If people didn't pay decent prices for Amiga gear it would all get trashed and collectors/users would have a hell of a time keeping gear running.

Ebay raises awareness to non users that the items they want gone could be worth their time to list on ebay, and make the buyer happy.

Be carefull what you wish Xenon

I think you are wrong. People dont keep Amiga stuff because they think it is going to be the Antique of the future. They just keep them because they had so much fun using it as a kid.

I still believe that the reason that Amiga's are so expensive on eBay right now is because of the age of the average Amiga user.

Right now the majority have left school/university and are in full time jobs, unmarried and have large disposable incomes, possibly for the first time since they first owned an Amiga, they are also getting to that "nostalgia" part of their life. And so they want to own the Amiga they never could own as a kid.

Give it a year or two... they will be getting married, their wives will insist that they get rid of "all that crap" and the market price for Amiga's will go down.

Pah, just marry a woman who doesn't mind what you spend your money on.

I did.

Did I mention she also likes Star Trek, and is a ballet dancer?

Hey Yo!

I remember paying £30 for a set of 3 Amiga 1200 desktops (plus the boxes, software, disks and external FDD). I remember feeling a bit pissed off cos i thought i may have paid a little too much for them..... but after witnessing this.....

Regards,
