Total Chaos latest help...

Is the latest version of the game limited in any way? My friend said he downloaded it a while back and he said he was limited to about 20 moves and then could not play any further.

Thanks all.

You will need to register this great game if you want to play further and remove the turn limit.

Hi,

I'm the person who originally asked this question on a different forum.

Many thanks to HonoredShadow for reposting my question on this board.

We have since found the answer:-

Although previous versions of this game had to be registered, it now appears that the freely downlaodable release of version 6 has the limit removed.

It says in the readme.

Quote:
* No more 18 turn limit
Sure enough I've been playing this for a day or so now, and the limit is no more.

Hope That Helps,

Cheers,
DP

Glad to help. It is a great game isn't it! Played it for hours last night. Changing different options here and there.

Now, back to playing Rescue and Dizzy. Long live the ZX Spectrum!

Yes, version 6.46 is the one I'm now using. Until I read your post, I didn't realise earlier versions 6.xx still had the limitaion. The last one I tried before this was version 5.xx a couple of years back. Thanks for the clarification.

Hi guys, I'm new here. Congrats on the great site.

Can anyone guide me to the link of the latest free Total Chaos game?
I was using the 20 limit version.

Although it does say in the 6.46 docs that the 18 turn limit is now removed, for the first time today, I've had the game terminate on me after 20 turns, with the "Donations are welcome" message.

So it looks like even version 6.46 is still shareware. Sorry about this, because I reported earlier that it looked like the turn limit had been removed (I thought it had).

It must be that I had never got to 20 turns whilst playing it over the last few weeks without even realising it. (It had been crashing on me under WinUAE)

Still don't know why it states in the docs that the limit has been removed though!

Yes I can confirm. Here is the proof:

Will somebody do something about it?

@ Digital Prawn: Mate, you got to love them for the brilliant stuff; they said the 18 turn limit was removed, and indeed it was. They didn't lie. They just placed a 20(!) one later.

If you want to contribute something to the Total Chaos project, just email James Conwell at the address in the Aminet readme file. I'm sure he'll let you have a registered version if your contribution to the game is substantial enough.

Only people with jobs actually pay for Total Chaos Unlimited. Team Chaos accepts almost anything as a donation last I checked. I have heard stories of guys getting it for 2 buckets of chicken + an old mangy billygoat with a broken leg named Geraldo. I bet someone could get one by translating the game to Portugese or Greek. I heard of a guy who got it just by writing two "spooky" mods for the game.

If you were truly lame and talentless, can't draw or code then I woulda sponsored you, IF I thought you would make me a worthy opponent. Too bad you are busy playing 10000 other games. Later.

Although what's the big deal of paying for something that someone's put a lot of effort into and continues to develop? I think if you really enjoy the game and if you can't contribute in any other meaningful way, pay for it and stop being so ridiculously tight. For Christ's sake.

If this means you think I'm crap at Chaos, think twice. if I could play against you via net, I would. Just don't have a real miggy (mine just went dead a year ago, I'm on UAE). But I accept your challenge anytime.

Actually you didn't have to write anything. 80% of all the mods I heard in the game are ripped from many other games I played in the miggy, and I mean many! So I'll just drop them my ancient mod collection and get the unlimited version I guess... Yes, I also rip mods. Or get more D&D book images to make menu screens.

Aggressive aren't we.

I had no problem contributing, actually. Just found it weird, that's all...
I'll E-Mail the guy. If he needs to, he just needs to send me the specs on how to make spells and stuff like that, and I'll convert some nice D&D Spells for him if he wants too... or images... or mods...

If I don't, I'll just send the guy some credits and buy the game. And then figure out how to destroy the damn Dragon generator it keeps appearing on my games... Nice challenge that one.
