To start; good luck finding documentation and binaries.

Can we download vr software for the Amiga somewhere? I want to use Virtual Desktop or Bigscreen beta to run WinUAE in fullscreen on the Rift (or Vive or any other supported HMD). If the stuff is sbs stereo it should be in 3D.
Just by the way, Lotus III or scene demos are awesome in 2D VR on a huge virtual screen. |

You'd have to find a source of virtuality machines. I notice on the latest Ravi Abbot video, there are a number in a Museum in Derby/Nottingham somewhere. They must have backups of the games in case one of their machines breaks down.

I doubt they will upload the backups for the public.
I wonder how the headtracking worked. If it is just the mouse input controlled with the head it may be possible to use some input mapper. Like Vorpex does to make many 2D games run in VR. |

I work with the original designer of 'Dactyl Nightmare' and a fair few other games produced by Virtuality. I should be in the office next Tuesday and will ask about the tracking system.

I'm sure maybe a backup can be made from the museum's machines, if they are willing. It would be really sad to lose this technology, and lending it for preservation (both hardware and software) should be among the goals of the museum. They also have that CD1200 prototype, I Wonder if anything inside is worth preserving.
Perhaps Ravi can put someone interested in contact with the museum to start a preservation project for Virtuality. |

Right Finally been into the office and chatted with Graham. (Dactal Nightmare designer). The very oldest systems (Amiga) used POTs to read angles (3DOF not 6DOF). After that it was all magnetic tracking systems (Polyphemus with the occasional Ascension) and PCs (486 I think).
I found some old Virtuality hardware (Dev systems). They are going to the Leicester computer museum soon. I will try and get access again to them before then and try and image their hard drives Last edited by Bastich; 22 May 2017 at 21:51. |

One of the guys on UKVAC has a couple of these complete systems (I'm an admin on the forum - though I don't really participate much these days). At least one was up and running a few years back at the Retro Revival show. A mate of mine has a complete system too IIRC although his will be in many pieces in storage. (When I say complete system, I mean the whole arena thing that you stand in together with headsets, basically the whole lot that would have been in an arcade).
SOMEWHERE, I've got the CD for one of the Virtuality games. It was in the CD drive of a 4000D that someone gave me. I know he had been trying to get it going on the 4000D before discovering that it wasn't the correct hardware (at least that is my recollection). To be fair, I'm not 100% sure what he was doing with the system. I can try and find the CD although I do have in the back of my mind I MAY have chucked it out :s |
