Trademark disputes

From Amiga-News.de

Trademark disputes: yet another party wants to own "Amiga"
In the US and Germany, the registration for the "Amiga" trademark already expired. It's still a registered mark in the EU until May next year, but nobody really expects the current owner to ever do something with that registration again. As a result, Hyperion Entertainment (AmigaOS 4) and Cloanto (Amiga Forever) started fighting for various Amiga marks earlier this year.

Apparently, another competitor has entered the ring now: on August 30, somebody named Heinz-Alexander Drews applied to have the "Amiga" mark registered in his name at the German patent and trademark office. On the same day, using the same law firm, somebody -the applicant's personal details are not public yet - also filed an application for the same mark with the European Intellectual Property Office.

It's important to note that both the German and the European mark would collide with Amiga, Inc.'s existing EU trademark. In contrast to Cloanto - who only started the process to register the US "Amiga" mark in its name the day after Amiga Inc.'s original registration expired - Drews seems to count on the current owner of the mark not defending his IP - which gives him a head start, compared to other parties interested in inheriting the mark.

It's currently not clear if Heinz-Alexander Drews is connected to any companies or individuals in the Amiga market.

Could you link to the original news item instead of pasting the entire news item here? Thanks.

Well, a crowdfunding Kickstarter would do it, but how much money do we need in total and where to send them after the set time limit.
I Googled this Heinz-Alexander Drews and little or nothing popped up.

An unlikely name isn't it? Heinz is a typically German name, yet the surname is clearly not German.

Meeh, wrong.

It has german ancestry, specially in northern Germany.
Well, almost the entire english language has its origin in the german language, hasn't it?

Thanks but I was asking to have the quoted news item replaced with these links.

It might not look that way, but writing that stuff costs me a lot of my spare time, and the only thing motivating me are our server stats.

What???

...so you don't want people to copy / paste stuff from Amiga-News.de but instead only hotlink so that your stats look ok?

Good luck enforcing that

...as a side note; I see loads and loads of EAB stuff copied / pasted all over the internet on various other Amiga forums / websites; including direct links to the EAB File Server. Should we try to stop that too???

I really doubt RCK gets upset because people aren't visiting the original source forum or that stats aren't getting updated.

Let's have this discussion when you grew up and learned about copyright.

I wasn't "enforcing" anything, I was asking fellow Amiga website personnel to respect my work. Not sure how that warrants this kind of reply?

Oh god, here we go...

If you actually looked; ma693541's first line links to your site... Is that not sufficient???

Ok then, if that's how you are going to be.... we don't need this shite on EAB anyway... keep your stupid news!!! I should never have approved the thread

I should now go over to "Amiga-New.de" and make damn sure that none of your threads contain anything EAB related...

This thread will be deleted in an exactly one hour

"Drews" is a normal German surname but probably pronounced very differently from what you imagine...

Korodny, I stated in my post the link to the front door to amiga-news.de. Why should i use hotlinking as DamienD state in hispost. Hotlinking is a bit rude and many sites have gone under because of use of hotlinking and direct links to stuff that only the members of the sites should have access to. If I had written this news, I would be glad to spread them on all Amiga-sites without hotlinking, but a link to the front door from the original news site.

Calm down, please. The difference is that the forum content is usually created by users while the news item was created by the person running that server.

Ok, so what?

...does it say specifically on "Amiga-New.de" to not copy / paste anything on another site but instead only hotlink?

Again; ma693541 hotlinked in the first line anyway so where's the issue???

Thread now moved out of the "News" section
