I didn't even know Back to the Future Part III had passcodes?
You can certainly start the first level without a code.

The US version (SPS #1171) has indeed a manual protection before the game loads. The European version (SPS #0265) not.

There are 2 IPF's:

#265 lets you play the first part (need to practice, can't get past it for next level)

#1171 asks for pass codes straight away.

So you think #0265 is O.K to play without passcodes?

Yep, i think so. There are scans of the European version manual and there is no additional pass code grid for it.
