Dream17 closing down
(edit - It's entirely possible I've posted this in the wrong subforum, in which case whoops.jpg)
Hey, all. Long time no, y'know, anything. I was contacted by WorMatty, who handles the hosting for Dream17 and a number of other small non-Amiga related sites, and he tells me that he's no longer in a position to foot the hosting bill for the sites. As such, the plan is to close Dream17 down. That's a great shame, because we're probably the only place on the internet which has full permission from Team17 to make their entire Amiga back-catalog of games available for download in ADF and IPF format, as well as hosting ISOs of their CD32 games. That's a tremendous library that we'd hate to see vanish into the ether. I'd like to preserve it online in some fashion. The Softography+ and the articles aren't really worth saving - a lot of the stuff I did for that site was written ages ago and is either out of date or just badly written (I launched Dream17 when I was 18, so there's not a lot of polish) - but I'd very much like to keep that games library in tact. I vaguely recall some years ago talking to some of the fine folks at Abime about rehosting the site before before we ended up going with our current solution. If there's any interest in preserving Dream17 in reduced form as a games library online somewhere... well, hit me up. My email address is me [a] benpaddon [dot] net. Cheers, and happy new year everybody! |

Yes please, can someone host the site on abime.net or any other secure platform ?
Before hand, make a full save of the whole website |

Sorry to hear quirminator2k & WorMatty... Dream17 is a great site that's been around for donkeys and always served the community
Send bossman AKA RCK a PM pointing to this thread; he's the person you need to talk with and can make things happen Also, you can host any files on the EAB File Server. |

Is the hosting problem only related to bandwidth costs? Because you could change large-file links to copies already present on archive.org. For example this URL for Worms CD32 ISO:
Code:
http://web.archive.org/web/20160322010600/http://www.dream17.info/filage/downloads_worms_cd32iso.zip |

Looks like they are gone now. Did anyone happen to get the site backed up?

Actually, we did - and we're working with Abime to get it restored!

Yup, great news indeed my friend!!!
Thanks to the main man RCK for kindly hosting, keeping the Amiga spirit alive and not letting important sites die ...and obviously to you also squirminator2k for your cool website that you've put over a decade into Glad that you are now hosted as part of the numerous abime.net resources |

Ha! Thank you. Admittedly most of the work over the last 8-or-so years has been down to SupSuper, WorMatty and the rest of the team who kept the site alive and kicking. They deserve far more credit than I do.
