Amiga 3000 will not boot - no video

Hi
I have another Amiga 3000 issue.
It worked ok on Friday last week, for the first time in about a year.
Saturday it failed.

Horrendous corrosion where the battery used to be.
Board cleaned, Paula & Denise sockets replaced & connections all checked.
ALL custom chips have legs cleaned and sockets cleaned / replaced.
the two 74 logic IC`s (7404 & 7474) which is above the battery have been removed, board cleaned, sockets added, new chips installed.
All connections from these chips checked too.

Issue :
Rom and diagrom - the same.
upon power, TV detects a signal, and screen goes from blue (no signal) to black - which is usual.
Then a second later, it drops back to blue - no signal.

Any ideas?

Yo Bromigo!

Don’t own a A3000. But maybe worth watching some of Chris Edwards A3000 repair videos which might help;

Yeah, I've watched loads of his videos, and also been chatting with him for help, but as we're opposite sides of the planet, he can only help so much

Is this via the Amber output or the RGB output?

If you don't mind paying RetroPassion in the UK might take it on. They offer recapping for lots of different boards. I've never used them but they are the most commercial of anywhere in the UK.

There are a list of other people in the UK who might be able to help here :

Try the diagrom's serial output to see what it says.

A bit closer to home, try retrorewind.ca (Canada) Bromigo! Have used them in the past when in North America.

You need a null modem cable or dongle. I recently diagnosed my A4000T and had to use the serial terminal. It had multiple issues and I couldn't get video output from Diagrom. That ended up being a bad power connector. I had too many boards in it a few years ago and it melted the power connector. I managed to make the heat damaged connector connect but it wasn't a good connection and once I sourced the right connector and swapped it, the Diagrom got to the menu screen and I quickly found that I also had a blown CIA. I removed it and put in a socket and, after a couple of reflows of the solder, I have my A4000T back in operation. It's always an amazing feeling to get an Amiga back to the boot screen after it's been down a while. In my case, around 4 years. I thought that there were even worse problems due to a green screen and had the impression that multiple chips had failed. The CIA wasn't exactly dead, it had turned into a mutant zombie that was messing other signals up. When I removed it, all the diagrom tests passed except for CIA A and the keyboard. With it in, chip ram also failed and I thought I had problems with the ram chips or bridgette.

Apart from the null modem cable, you just have to make sure the software is set properly on the PC side. As I remember it, the setting was just a standard 9600 baud 8 bit no parity setting. And holding one of the mouse buttons, I can't remember which but it's in Diagrom documentation, forces the output to the serial port instead of the display.
