Guardian A1200/4000 version
I would like to submit that the floppy version of Guardian deserves a HD install. There is a slave for the CD32 version which is old and broken at the moment (I filed a bug report in Mantis) but no one has attempted a slave for the floppy version which has some additional features that the CD32 original lacks.
The games 1st disk is a standard DOS disk and can be installed to HD but the second disk that contains the games levels is not and must remain in DF0 at all times. Given that most commercial Amiga games seem to have an installer now I was surprised to see one of the Amigas most highly rated games has never had one (It was rated the 3rd best Amiga game of all time by Amiga Power in 1995 and ’96). |

Seconding this request. Such a highly rated AGA game and no WHDload Slave?!

What additional features does the floppy version have over the CD32 release?

The ability to play with a mouse is a nice bonus. Guardian with an optical mouse and keyboard is a joy.
Not sure what other differences there are. |

The other main difference is you can increase the worlds rendering distance in the floppy version. Not much use on a stock A1200 or CD32 but on an accelerated Amiga it’s a huge advantage to have.

Mod note: Merged from another thread at member's request
***************************************************** Already mentioned here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=72318 "Given that most commercial Amiga games seem to have an installer now I was surprised to see one of the Amigas most highly rated games has never had one (It was rated the 3rd best Amiga game of all time by Amiga Power in 1995 and ’96)." Strange. There's only the CD32 version available. But no music, no mouse steering, less options ... Oh sorry. I just realized that there is a thread already just right here (my link). Please someone of the mods: melt it together or delete my thread and I will write in the old one to bump it. Last edited by lilalurl; 06 May 2018 at 10:02. |

The status is "Guardian (Vision), 95% complete (thanks to Jeff for new OSEmu!!!) 2014-01-07 Codetapper"
I think I can create version myself, won't take too much time (and merge with CD32) |

damn, life and other projects get in the way. And when you have time, you're so tired you just want to rant in the forums...

Yeah, damn life and work and family, never enough time for the important and good things, like demanding something from someone in forums.

I have a lot of other patches I need to work on so I might have a look here but only if jotd doesn't have time to do it. Greetings back from Berlin to Berlin. |

Had a bit of time and out of curiosity had a look at Guardian. Disk format is funny (tracks are in backwards order), coding the RawDIC imager to save all files didn't take long and the game is already running from HD but there are problems with the joystick routines which I'll have to look into. I guess a patch for the disk version should be available soon.

You really are generous and friendly.
That's not typical for a guy from berlin. I am looking forward to the results of your work. And I think many others too, because it's a highly rated game. (Danke Dir, schön einen solch fleißigen und fähigen Amiga Programmierer in der Nähe zu wissen.) |

My pleasure.
Quite a good game indeed and one of those I missed back then as I took a longer break from the Amiga scene when it was released. I have the game fully running (had to recode the keyboard routine and patch the joystick stuff) and will do some further testing now, patch will be available in the next days. N.B. not all the people in the Berlin are unfriendly, also, often people appear rude/unfriendly here when in fact they aren't, it's just the way it is in Berlin. :P |

Sting you could have reused the one from Skidmarks / Skidmarks II ... I bet they're the same, backwards and all...

Didn't check the Skid Marks format but seeing it's been done by the same coders it's probably indeed using the same format. On the other hand, coding the RawDIC imager was fun and didn't take long so I don't mind.
Edit: checked your Skid Marks imager and the track format is indeed exactly the same. I still would have needed to adapt the file saving code for the data disk though so it wasn't wasted time at all. Last edited by StingRay; 24 September 2018 at 21:04. |

But it's getting harder to find a real native, because more and more people from other regions of germany and from all over the world are living here. Last edited by DaveTaylor; 24 September 2018 at 22:44. |

You should see what it's like living in London; I've bearly ever meet a "real native" (which I'm obviously not) in 19 years of being here

I've been living for almost 4 decades in Berlin and still like it here. Areas like Simon-Dach-Str. (I actually grew up there and it sure has changed during the years) are always interesting to visit as you easily get in contact with lots of different people. However, this is getting really off-topic now. So to stay on topic at least a bit, I have now added some trainer options and tested the game a bit more, everything seems to work fine so far so I'll most probably finish the install package tomorrow. |
