Hi tygre! Next step is to create the site and try to pass the incubation stage. Going by this thread alone, it might be tricky - but I'm still up for giving it 100%

I'll go for broke and begin the submission process and come back here with the results. It won't be tonight - but in the next day or two

Yes, that would be the ideal.
Although a structured wiki would also be simpler to browse systematically, having answers to even simple questions is very helpful to allow newcomers to the machine who would be scared by a big huge wiki.
(Kind of like Wikipedia already contains many of the information listed in Stack Overflow answers but it is not structured to allow question based search.)

The Ubuntu rules are sound and would fit just fine indeed.

Good to read there is still a pulse to this topic Here's what will be ahead for the Amiga Stack Exchange site once I propose it:

Phase 1: Definition
We need at least 40 questions created with a score of at least 10 net votes.
If we don't meet the target, the site doesn't get created.
if we do, we go to the next phase, which is...

Phase 2: Commitment
Petitioning takes place for contributors to commit to supporting the sites by signing the petition. There are no criteria defined for moving t
o the next phase, so I assume it is time based:

Phase 3: Beta
Important points here:
"Earliest questions set the tone and topic of the site for a long time".
Promote the site on social media, friends, blogs, groups etc to increase engagement
An 'unused' site will be deleted.
"Questions [should] get good answers quickly"
An FAQ must be developed during this phase, moderators assigned and design refined.

Finally, if we reach "critical mass" we are deemed successful. The definition of critical mass is a little vague[1] but it seems the consensus
is, just give it a try[1].

I'll try to involve some podcasts in the early stages to see who else can support us out of the definition phase. Then around the beta phase, an assault on facebook, google plus, twitter, various boards, blogs, mailing lists (do they still exist?), podcasts, magazines etc would be preferable.

I'll push the red button this weekend hopefully

And as I begin the creation process, a notice reminds me;

Quote:
After you've submitted your proposal below, here is what you'll need to get started:

5 example questions you would like to ask on this site
5 users who are willing to 'follow' this proposal

Proposals that do not meet these requirements within three days after submission are subject to removal.

Note that abandoned proposals which receive no activity for a period of 30 days may also be removed.
So please, tell your friends, kids, pets etc to get on board!

Some good sample questions here on a more general proposal that is not specific to any platform: http://area51.stackexchange.com/prop...etro-computing

That was fast - it has been deemed that the proposal duplicates too much of an existing proposal:
http://area51.stackexchange.com/prop...etro-computing

I don't know if there is any course for redress but at the very least I'll keep tabs on the and see how they fare. A path may open yet.

There are open source alternatives out there - I'm now considering creating a Q&A site exclusive to Amiga. I have the software, looking into hosting options now.

Hi TenLeftFingers!

Although I found totally stupid to consider Commodore Amiga as covering the same as Retro-Computing, we could still use (as a community) and, in time, ask to move Amiga-related questions to its own place?

Cheers!

Hi tygre,

They don't seem to like that approach and I couldn't even add a comment under the closure statement so I don't think theres any flexibility for proposals that fall outside the opinion of the moderators. I've been thinking about it a lot and Im concerned that we may be backing the wrong horse by persuing it further.

There will be a dedicated Amiga Q&A site in the coming days.

The site is very nearly ready. I just need to fix a login issue with one of the supported social accounts. The final two tasks remaining are to create the tags that questions can apply as well as some guideline questions to populate the site to set the tone.

Tag's are important because they make the question discoverable to others with the same problem. Having duplicates or too many overlaps reduces their discoverability through division. Here's a list I have so far - please add more to the list and propose sample questions (no answers needed as of now). Once there are enough of each, the site should be presentable.

Thanks to AmiLord for help with the testing!!

We are live and have our first question!

Exciting times. I hope everyone interested can take a little time to ask and answer so the site grows nicely.
