Alien Breed 3D (1st one) Vs AB3D playable demo

I finally found a downloadable copy of the playable demo of Alien Breed 3D. It was on the excellent Alien Breed homage website I WANT FISH.

http://iwantfish.gazchap.com/

The feel of the demo is better than the released game in my opinion but I am interested to here what you others think...

I've not tried it to be honest, maybe the level data could be used with the demo executable? Or is it the levels you prefer from the demo?

It'd be good to see the whdload install add support for the demo, much like a lot of the others do.

The feel of the demo I think is down to the AI of the beasties and the layout of the levels which are more simple, dark and realistic. Both the versions I downloaded from IWANTFISH can be run from HD but with varying success. It's a shame the demo is so short. I must have played this 50 times before the game was finally released which led to a bit of a feeling of dissapointment.

Download the demo and see what y'all think...

I definitely will, I loved the actual game, and if the demo is different/better it should make interesting playing!

Floppy disk

Isn't that the same demo that was released on an Amiga Format cover disk? An AB3D demo was on AF71b and can be downloaded from the Nth Dimension website:

if it -is- the same one that was on Amiga Format... i've thought this for years!!

the aliens look more Giger-esque (only green as i recall) and therefore close to Alien Breed (2d) and of course in turn, the Aliens films... this imho can only be a good thing!

i remember thinking the demo rocked, and although i enjoyed the game, i never saw any aliens like that in the game itself.... something of a disapointment.

also, the red dog-alien things reminded me of the boars in ZX Speccy "Robin o` the Wood" ... but thats neither here nor there.

Ditto, it was quite a scary and thereby proficient demo - I wasn't quite as impressed with the actual game in comparison.

I only remember 2 demos - the rolling one and the playable one. Was there more than one playable version?

I think Hungry Horrace has hit the nail on the head (or at least one of them!) coz the Giger-sytled Aliens looked better. Even the fireballs they threw were RIGHT.

Killergorilla - GREAT Avatar. I love Ghostbusters!

Ghostbusters are indeed AWESOME.

I've tried the demo, I must say the Aliens are ten times better. The game seems slightly different too not entirely sure why.

I'd like to see this WHDLoaded so I can play it whenever I like

Yep, I felt the same.

The demo textures and aliens are much better.

Is it possible to hack the final release to use the demo textures?

the rolling one had no "game" so i guess when they added the game they had to make a sacrifice or 10

There was an early "Fears" Demo floating about which was really different to the finished game... I remember being very disappointed with the Alien Breed 3D games and with Fears as well TBH... Gloom would get my vote - it wasnt perfect but was fun to play in it's day.

Where can I get the "Rolling" Demo of Alien Breed 3D?

If the released Alien Breed 3D had maintained the style and feel of the original playable demo I think it would have been an awesome game. In my opinion they seemed to have tried to make the released version of AB3D to "fancy" and intricate.

I agree with others have said about the textures also being better in the demo.

AB3D was one of the best games on the Amiga.
