I made a little table listing the player and the team overall values of the starting eleven of national teams worth picking in this SWOS 96/97 competition.

The results will change if you pick a different formation (e.g. 4-4-2 for England).

Will post this on Lemonamiga as well.

Good luck

My first go for a long time, drew my first game 2-2 with Brazil but followed that up with six wins; 2-0 v Spain, 2-1 v Czech Republic, 3-0 v Italy, 3-2 v Holland, 4-0 v France and 1-0 v Germany (scoring with the last kick of the game to win).

@Graham: Balls, that's a bloody competitive score. I'm going to give it some serious time tonight and try and actually put a decent run together.

Notice about Player Stats and Signature Tags:

The all-time player scores and signature bars have now been updated. The signature bars are one you can see at the foot of this post. They are very popular, many players use them. They are the nearest thing to a Club Badge we can give you as members of the group, and these also contain your all-time scoring statistics; which I use to cross-reference the scores and make sure everything is working.

If any newbies or regulars want to add their badge and rank to their posts, all you need to do is go to:
http://superleague.mikendezign.com/comprating.php

Copy the image location of your tag, and insert this into the signature area on your profile inside IMG and /IMG code markers, like this:

your tag will then appear something like this:

When making a new post, there is an option to turn on or off your signature, so you dont need to include your tag on all your posts (like me).

Capehorn - hope you dont mind me using your tag as an example.

Mailman - Thanks! for using yours again.

Refamiliarizing myself with the game (and learning to play it using keyboard, which will be the real challenge here). I had an unfortunate string of injuries and was annihilated by Italy after getting a red card, but at least I managed to win against Brazil, Czech Republic and Spain.

Nice to see someone else using Argentina. Maybe we can swap line ups at some point? For example I'm playing Batitstuta in attacking midfield (although my edited formation puts him up with strikers essentially.

Hi there

I chose Argentina as although they're quite an average side they have two superb strikers in Abel Balbo and Gabriel Batistuta. They also have a decent midfielder in Ariel Ortega. So my tactic is to keep the ball in the opponents half of the field at all cost with my best players as my defence isn't the best. If the opponent gets into my half then its a lot of flying tackles to try and rob them of the ball because if they get into the penalty box 8/10 they will usually bloody score. As the opponent goalkeepers are so damn good in this game you really need top rated strikers to get the goals for you. I didn't change any tactics though and just left it at the default sweeper system. I didn't even swap any players, only when I was forced into it with injuries.

Hi Steve, welcome to the games competition if you haven't played before. You sure do know your football, and its not easy to beat Graham playing SWOS.

Could you do us a huge favour and delete your screenshot image above from the main body of the text, as its making my web browser go crazy. As long as the attachments are with the post, thats what counts. Otherwise, pictures can be 500px wide with no issues.

@ BlackOceans - Thanks for adding your tag. Its always fun to watch ranks moving up the ladder.

As much as I respected Ryan Giggs as a player, using Wales just won't cut it if I want to compete with you guys. So I had a few attempts as Portugal this time.

This one almost went ok, the highlight being a big win against the Netherlands. But then I drew two of the must-win games (Brazil, Spain) and Italy... their strikers and goalkeeper seem to be on a different level to anybody else. I may have more possesion and shots at goal against them and still lose 0-3. I'll most likely end up just playing for a 0-0 draw / lucky 1-0 against them.

Looks like I'm the first to get 7 wins, I'm not sure the goal difference will be enough though. It didn't help that both my strikers were injured mid-season.

Ah ok, then I'm not going to be the only one who is unable to score any goal... I was so worried... Too bad games chosen for this round (Sensible has appeared numerous times deserved a good rest and First Sammurai is not a good choice for a compo)
