IBrowse 2.4 is it dead
I was woundering if there going to be any new updates cos you can't even purchase it anymore.
I have the demo version of it and want to get a key for it so I have the full version but it looks like that not going to happen.. |

Yeah, unfortunately it's never going to happen. You will need to find someone who owns a registered copy and buy their key off them.

Yes you can find the keyfile for it but I'd buy it if it was only possible.

I'd still buy it if I could, too. I still use it and think it's a great program, even if it's a little dated now.

It won't help you, but just for info: the (only) last legal way to obtain IBrowse 2.4 is purchasing AmigaOS4.1. But I must admit I don't know whether this is a special version or not.

IBrowse is good but so outdated that many sites fail to display. Missing CSS-support etc.

I've taked this thread to post this that I've read right now on the IBrowse page: http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/news.php?id=1393094281
22 Feb 2014 AmiSSL 3.6 and IBrowse 2.4 HTTPS vulnerabilities Harry Sintonen has released an advisory document detailing some flaws and vulnerabilities in AmiSSL 3.6, used by IBrowse to support secure connections, and IBrowse 2.4's HTTPS implementation. We advise that you should disable "SSLv2 support" on the "Security" page of the IBrowse preferences. And also in that section, on the "Ciphers" page, ensure that DES, 3DES (Encryption), MD5 (MAC) and Export (Cipher grade) are all disabled. These are enabled by default in IBrowse 2.4. Additionally, you may wish to enter the following command in a shell: "setenv save AmiSSL/SSL_CLIENT_VERSION ssl3" - this will disable SSL 2.0 globally in AmiSSL itself so will get applied to all other applications using AmiSSL (not just IBrowse). The IBrowse Development Team thank Harry for bringing these issues to our attention, and we will make any required fixes and HTTPS improvements for IBrowse 2.5. Hopefully, a new version of the now open-source AmiSSL will be released at some point, updated to use the very latest version of OpenSSL. EDIT: YES, that means they are alive (that's also why they keep their web) and they are thinking in IBrowse 2.5. Just IMHO actually I believe the 85% of people must be using the Googled key, but there is only one AFAIK, and IBrowse is the best browser by far, so I would be very glad -and I believe the most of us- to buy a new key as far as it would be updated somehow. To avoid pirate keys they only should have to change the program so it woudn't work with the Jess Tikkulator key. Last edited by Retrofan; 06 April 2014 at 04:41. |

Out of curiousity - I own a boxed version of IBrowse - is the key provided with that the sort that would be compatible with the latest current version?
Here's a pic of what I got.. there's four install disks for IBrowse 1.22, two for IBrowse2 and one each for Net&Web v2 and TermiteTCP. There was a serial code for upgrades on the Hisoft site, but the url leads nowhere. Last edited by Devlin; 06 April 2014 at 04:21. |

BTW, amigaworld works great with IBowse. Maybe there could be a special cutdown version of eab that's compatible with IBrowse?

Yes, in its own way with classic CRT shine and huge lowres font.
EDIT: I did notice now that you can change the default style "EAB3 skin" to "Mobile skin" by adding &styleid=4 to the URL which gets stored in a cookie, forum threads load a lot faster on the Amiga after that. Last edited by modrobert; 03 December 2014 at 05:08. |
