CDTV without picture displaying ??

Recently I bought CDTV but some strange damage. CDTV actually works, I can play cds, I can enter setup menu (I hear typical sounds) but I have black screen. Since it allow me to enter setup menu I assume only graphic is damaged. Is there any possibility to fix this ?

The CDTV have 2-3 video outs. A RGB out, same as as any Amiga and Composite, Svideo and RF. The last 3 are on removable card, if you dont have video out on the card then maybe card is bad or is no inserted properly. I would try RGB out to see if it works

Broken or missing "video module" = no output from 23-pin RGB out connector.

I had one A500 with same symptoms. The fault was the HY1 (Video Hybrid), so, If It's the same case, you have to replace It, or (as I did) make your own.

Well... It depends on your skills with the solder iron...
It's not a complicated circuit, but It needs some experience.
I'll post the schematics as soon as I draw them... :P
Here are the photos of my hybrid replacement.

It doesn't look too complicated.

I wouldn't replace the hybrid (DA converter) without more testing.. (it is not the only reason for no video)

Which CDTV "video slot" adapter do you have? (RF? Scart?)
I guess you used TV's Scart connector? Does it work with other Amiga models? Black/gray screen with syncs detected can also mean TV is using composite input, not RGB input.

Well, I supposed he made those chekings... but you're right. Hybrid replacing is the last step...
I was only talking about my experiences with other amiga models. I apologize if I confused you.
Also, check the power levels.

I have 3 CDTVs. First one works with RGB-SCART cable, second and third do not display picture (or display black picture, TV detect RGB switch and it looks like is in sync with CDTV). My amiga 1200 also works with this cable.

I tested other outputs - RF and composite video.

Ok, try replacing Denise from working Amiga. Still not working? Check connections between RGB output RGB-pins and video hybrid (and hybrid and Denise). I guess it is 99% surely hybrid ic problem if everything else checks ok..

Good idea, I should look for cheap A500 (I'm not going to rip my working CDTV).

About this HY1 - what elements might fail? Capasitor (very often I think), transistors oraz resistor (probably not)?

If the HY1 fails, the most advisable thing to do is replacing the whole unit. Rip it off an ancient dead A500.

I have up with replacing whole chipset, cost of buying and delivering amiga 500 is to high for this purpose. I'll try only fix HY1.

Ferix: Is this HY1 hand made or removed from amiga ?

Hello, where did you find information about how to build a Vidiot replacement? Did you manage to remove the black coating from a broken one? I think I have a faulty one in my CDTV, since it has the discussed symptoms... Thanks!

It's hand made. I've designed and buid It myself.

I designed It, but It's very simple. I'll post the schematics tomorrow.

Ok, thank you very much, will wait for the schematic!
Being quite ignorant, does the use of a self-made replacement introduce any delay in video displaying if compared to the "original" hybrid? Or the '245 buffers after Denise are there for guaranteeing correct timings?
