Can buy a US A500 in Europe. What mods?
So a US colleague of mine has in his attic a 1989 mint boxed A500 and 1084 monitor he would be willing to sell me really cheap. I have a spare A500 220v psu and an OCS PAL Agnus. Would it be worth buying this or do I need more mods to make this work? For the monitor not sure if this is usable altogether?
Thanks for suggestions! |

You can use your regular 220v psu, assuming you are in Belgium, if he is in the USA then i dont think it would be worth the shipping cost to Europe, there are lots for sssale in Europe. If it is a Rev6a motherboard, then consider it.. if it is rev 5 then i would pass |

The A500 is not a problem with an European PSU in Europe. Look at the voltage data at the monitor! It must be 220V - 240V in Europe.

You can use any european 220V PSU with it.
If you connect the machine through RGB it sould be fine. Be aware though that a lot of PAL software will give you trouble, you will need to make the machine be NTSC/PAL switchable if you want to play all software. |

As I said I have a spare Agnus chip I plan to put in there, is that the only chip that converts an NTSC into PAL ?
And for the monitor, even if I have a stepdown transformer, isn't there other differences since it is supposed to be running NTSC all the time, will it actually display PAL input correctly at 50Hz? |

The main crystal should come from a PAL machine too.
What is the revision of the motherboard + model of the Agnus? |

Not sure about revision or Agnus model, all I know for now is that he bought it in 1989. I will for sure know more the day I have it on my desk |

Sure.. 1989 is just on the verge of Rev6 and 8372. You might be lucky, in that case you don't have to swap Agnuses.
I wasn't as a kid, Rev5 and 8371 for me. :-) |
