She's Alive! (A500)
So about a year ago I drunk bought an A500 motherboard on ebay non working for around £6. So as you do the next day I was surfing the net and suddenly remembered I had bought the board. As I already had an A1200 and a A600 to restore this got put on the back burner for a bit.
Fast forward a few months and I finally had time at work to have a look at the board. Plugged it in to test and it was dead as a dodo. Again it went back into storage. Fast forward a few more months and here we are at the beginning of December. This time I looked over it properly and noticed that 2 caps were missing (highlighted) ordered some replacements and soldered them on. Nothing, nothing at all other than a grey screen. Checked the board again and noticed that the CIA chips had what looked like corrosion on them. At home that night i was on ebay again, sober this time and saw someone selling a random collection of A500 chips, bought for some silly money £3 quid odd. They arrived last night so changed one of the CIA chips tested it and we had life, got to the famous Amiga hand as below. Also in the selection of chips there was a 2.0 rom, swapped that over and now have working A500 board. All I need now is a case, keyboard, floppy etc. Am so pleased I managed to save what otherwise might of been thrown away. Now on lookout for a CD32 or a A4000... |
