Angry Component Cable Absurdity

Bought a Nintendo 64 with the classic Component Cable. Set the system up and turned on the console. The screen goes all blurry and is in black and white. I use a scart cable component adapter and the video quality is fine. It irritates me so much because what's the point of making a cable that doesn't work. Such a waste of bloody time and effort. Makes me feel like screaming, ahhhhhhh! What's the blimming point!!! Just get a scart connector instead. *pull's hair out and get's a headache*

Do you mean composite video cable (not component)? Because the N64 doesn't have component video output.

I'm not sure, if it was composite video cable how would an Nintendo 64 ever work without an adapter?

A composite video cable will have three phono plugs: yellow (composite video), white and red (left and right audio).

A component video cable would have five phono plugs. Typically red, green, blue (for the component video signals) plus white and red or audio.

Have you tried anything else (another console, DVD player etc.) to connect to the same yellow phono socket on your TV? Could it be that the socket on the TV is bad?

Do you see any improvement if you wiggle the end of the cable where it plugs into the TV? Maybe there's a loose connection, which didn't show up when you used the SCART adaptor, since the cable was in a different position then?

Other than those guesses I can't really help much. You could post a pic of your cable and what it looks like on your TV, but assuming the cable's the problem, you could always bin it and try another one.

Is it an NTSC console and your telly cant convert it? Because SCART wont give a toss about the format/output if its coming out in true RGB. Composite/Component will.
