4000, CF and SCSI

Yes thats right folks, another CF related question.

My 4000 has got a Cyberstorm MK II 060 with SCSI gidgety widget.

I have an IDE to CF adapter, the CF card boots FINE on the IDE, no problems at all (0x01fe00 Maxtransfer).

But now I have got a Scsi to IDE bridge, and when i boot the 4000, with the CF to IDE on the SCSI bridge, the A4000 appears to go through the wait process as it does with no IDE HDD, the activity led blinks briefly, then everything seems to have locked up, no Floppy action what so ever.

I have tried a SCSI HDD that I have, boots FINE (RDB, FFS). I have tried an IDE HDD on the bridge (RDB, FFS), boots fine. Yet when i put the CF adapter back on it.. nothing. (Yes it has power).

could it be the Maxtransfer of the CF card that is giving it the problems (0x1fe00) instead of the full SCSI maxtransfer ? Like i said, on the IDE channel, it BOOTS FINE, just not on the SCSI.

[edit] I did a boot bypass (Both mouse buttons) to get the boot screen.

ENABLED - DF0 Priority 5 ADOS Trackdisk-0
ENABLED - DH0 PRIORITY 0 ADOS CYBSCSI-4

It is SHOWING !!!! but when I try to boot with no startup sequence, CRASH.

Probably the CF card is incompatible with the SCSI->IDE adapter. Which model is it? ACARD AEC-7720U?

Why not try a different card if you've got one? Make sure it is of type FIXED.

Or try the SCSI->IDE->CF trio in a PC (which has SCSI).

No i have the R-IDSC. and the only other card I have is ANOTHER 4GB Sandisk (Purchased at the same time) that is running on my A1200 IDE (which also has the same issue on the Scsi>IDE>CF)

I have tried the ATCFWCHG utility but all I get is an "Error 20".

But surely, if it was NOT type FIXED, then would it not work in the 4000 IDE ? (Which it does).

The R-IDSC is working, as it boots off of IDE drives (10 GIG, 80GIG, 120GIG) just not this CF.

Perhaps the FIXED/REMOVABLE issue is related to PCMCIA->CF rather than IDE->CF?

No idea really.

I think I solved it, a very fine piece of metal filing in between two pins of the main controller on the board itself. We'll see
