possible to use 1581 drive to make amiga disk?

Hello,
I have a question I know you can't make amiga disks with PC hardware without special hardware. Is it possible to connect 1581 drive to PC and make amiga disks with it?.. I know its a long shot and I haven't found anything on it after few hours searching.

Hi zmame, and welcome to EAB!

The only way you can write Amiga floppy disks on a PC is with Individual Computers' Catweasel card.

The Amiga Explorer program, included with Amiga Forever, together with a suitable null modem serial cable, is a very reliable solution for writing ADFs to the floppy drive in your Amiga, but it's slow.

Transfer of a single ADF to floppy disk will take about 9 minutes at the default settings (though the progress indicator is usually rather more optimistic, estimating that the job will be done in only 3 minutes ).

What it lacks in speed it makes up for in reliability. It's an absolute gem of an application.

The next best thing on the AF CD after the workbench disk images.

I used the AExplorer program with my clockport PortJNR with a steady 115200bps to write floppy disks without a flaw in a decent speed (for a slow floppy, that's it).

I used the Whippet on the A600 with the same degree of success, but using "only" 56k speeds! Not the time expended writing a disk was modified widely...
