Set up External CD Rom with Subway

I have an external CD ROM - nothing flash - just one that has two usb connections (one for power) I have plugged it into a powered hub which in turn connects to my Subway usb in my A1200...

I want to set up the CD ROM so Workbench can read some CD's and I will have to install some software to do so... before I started messing about I wondered if anyone had attempted this and knew the best sotware to use... AmiCROM, AMICDFS. AsimCDFS, CacheCDFS etc... I THINK I have to suggest to the software that the device is "usbscsi.device" but I guess I am going to have to test a little - anyway - anyone had any success doing this?

I will test today and post any results I get...

I installed CacheCDFS to configure my CD ROM - I didn't test any other other CD software once I got this working - I still have to configure it a bit more precisely but it works and reads all the CD's I have for my Amiga...

I will post more details tomorrow when I get a bit more time but when I spoke to Amiga kit about this the recommended software to use was CacheCDFS.

Hi Kriz - sorry to take a while replying to this... I used CacheCDFS from the OS 3.5 CD ROM - I just set things up with a CD0: DOS Driver which used the usbscsi.device.

The only problem I have which I haven't really investigated a solution for as yet is the fact that when the system boots if the CD0: driver is in Dos Drivers drawer, Poseidon hasn't had enough time to initiate so the CD0: Driver I have set up throws up an error message... my quick and lazy fix is to just give myself a short cut to CD0: which I leave in Storage/Dos Drivers - once the system (including Poseidon) has fully booted I just double click my CD0: icon and my USB CD ROM Drive fires into life....

I am sure there is a better way of doing this...??
It must be just a case of adjusting the boot order somehow...?
How have you got on setting your CD ROM up ?

IIRC, there is an utility to wait for for a delimited time and then fire up a program. Other amigan can point you in the right direction.

Move CD0 from Devs/DosDrivers to WBStartup.

Or move the Poseidon start command from user-startup into startup-sequence before the mount command.

Success - it seems like just dropping the CD0: icon into workbench start-up drawer does the trick - gosh, that was l lot simpler than I thought...

Many thanks Thomas!

Another thing I cant work out is how to play an audio CD through the usbscsi.device - all my audio CD's appear on screen as CD0:NDOS

There is an error message that appears when trying to use PlayCD - it states that Device does not conform to SCSI-2 Standard (referring to my device which is usbscsi.device, unit 0, version 0)
Same problem when trying to access any mp3 files from CD Also...
