Hi, i'm looking for good demos with a strong cyberpunk theme.
Any suggestions?

By definition, any Amiga demo by a cracking group is cyberpunk What would be an example of a strong themed one?

One that Wiki doesn't have (yet). I bet he means one that uses images/themes from stuff like Neuromancer/Shadowrun/Akira etc. I have one Akira themed demo and will try to dig it up.

How about future city in 3D in Alpha & Omega 2 demo? Or this awesome slideshow by Crusaders? (I don't remember title - it's name of graphician, two disks, brilliant music, pictures in interlace).

A definition from a mag I read sometimes ago. It was basically cyber=high tech, punk=outlaw. If you come to think of it, makes a lot of sense. This was used to describe "Max Headroom", but without a serious, universally accepted source, pretty much anyone can come up with anything and it will still be as valid

Fair enough, although I would've assumed that someone asking about it would mean some widely accepted relatively narrow definition.

@Maren
So what should Snake ask for? Demos that could be inspired by Neuromancer? Something along the lines of Ghost in the Shell? Why not just used for 'Cyberpunk themed demos'? Sometimes I don't get why people get into smart arse mode for no obvious reason...

Whatever he meant, only he can tell Still I just checked the entry from askoxford.com and this is what they have: "noun a genre of science fiction set in a lawless subculture of an oppressive society dominated by computer technology" maybe we should settle for that?

Ask him

Well, never played Neuromancer and never heard about the ghost thing. You know, it's always these late-80's megademos ala RSI/WildCopper what give me this "cyberpunk" feeling for some reason.

Sorry but what do you mean by that?

Yes, that's a decent definition. But, you see, it's about setting and style, not about the creator.

But enough of that, this isn't doing this thread any good. I shouldn't have said anything. I shall leave this thread alone now.

It's a book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer) and the ghost thing is a movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_in_the_shell). The term 'Cyberpunk' is rather well established (at least IMO), so if you've never heard about it except for that one mag, I'm sorry for the rather harsh words.

And it is a game.

Remember Johnny Mnemonic? This was a movie based on very similar themed short story by the same author, William Gibson.

Btw, Neuromancer and GitS are really worth reading/watching. [ Show youtube player ] is a music video that contains samples from GitS.

I know But that game is based... any would take a wild guess... on the book! If you would have taken five minutes to read the Wiki you would have seen this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuromancer#Video_game (same article) Any other questions?

Btw : Another song with the ghost in the shell sample is by Makai ( [ Show youtube player ] @2:37)
I'm also not sure if the Wamdue song contains any samples from the movie rather than just featuring the movie as the music video

I'm generally disgusted by everything that comes from Japan and the ghost shell movie definitely doesn't look like a potential exception, but if it's anywhere near as "good" as that song you posted, I know I'm not missing much, if anything

Either way, I suppose you're right, I was not familiar enough with the term
