pc speakers for Amiga?

Hi all,
I'm sadly in the process of putting a new pc into the main role as my computer and pulling the Amiga back into reserve. However this is going to leave the Amiga too far from my stereo kit to use the amplifier.

If I get a suitable adaptor for the leads could I put the Amiga's sound through a cheap pair of pc speakers (with internal amp)?

Any other thoughts?

Cheers.

Don't buy really cheap PC speakers because you wont be doing the Amiga any favours... games will just sound awful - I bought a pair of Creative I Trigue Speakers and they are actually pretty good - as 8bitbubsy states you will need to buy an adaptor from Maplins as well to connect them.

Hi Anemos,

You will require a 3.5mm Jack Socket to 2 Phono/RCA plugs Adapter Cable like the one linked to by PowerPie above:

Aye, prowler is correct.

Jack socket to 2x RCA's.

Made 1 for the A4000T in work, so I could use the inbuilt monitor speakers.

Stay away from non-stereo PC speakers (5.1 gaming stuff etc) and "enhanced" speakers (bass boost+treble boost) crap, and you'll be fine. In fact, any decent pair from the 80s forward will be better than the monitor speakers

Reason is the plastic resonates (and they're also cheap and crap :P), so get a solid looking normal set of wooden speakers and use a stereo for the amplification and volume control.

If you get powered speakers, see if the plastic or metal cases seem sensible.

If you want you can remove the speakers from your Amiga monitor (I have), as they are magnetic and don't belong near a CRT I've seen too many PC CRTs with discoloring in the corners...

Thanks for the link, Amigakit!

I'll include one of those in my next order (for DD disks!).

Also get a 3.5mm stereo male-male cable ofc, but the PC speaker set probably includes that.
