Haunting game music
There are quite a few soundtracks from games that I remember fondly. Whenever I start humming the tune I have to load up the game!
Amiga: Cannon Fodder, Turrican Trilogy, Xenon2 C64: Delta, Citadel, Creatures, Navy Seals, Last Ninja Trilogy The very first time I heard the tune to Delta, I was blown away! It amazes me even today. Rob Hubbard was the 'King of SID'. Tim Follin was another great musician (his soundtrack to Bionic Commando still rocks!) I even purchased three music CDs called "Best of SID". Remember them? What's your fave game tune? |

C64: there is a certain magic about those SIDs that can't be equalled. These are the ones that really stood out for me:
Mega Apocalypse I-Ball Platoon Level 5 Master of Magic Trantor (loading screen) Zoids Street Surfer Deathwish III If I had to pick one, it would be Zoids by a whisker over Master of Magic Amiga: Zeewolf loading music: that's the one I like. |

my favourite amiga tunes have to be the chippy ones on the paranoima cracktro ( shadow of the beast/shufflepuck cafe etc..) and the one on the champs cracktro ( winter olympiad etc)... great memories.. however, when i was a kid i got woken up by my dad playing shadow of the beast downstairs after having a really bad nightmare, and having to creep downstairs in the dark at the age of 5 to find out what was happening with the really creepy panpipes on... song still shits me up to this day... brrr. im twenty two for gods sake!
huelsbecks stuff always stood up well ... the loading tune to r-type, level on on r-type, traps on turrican 2.. some classics there! |

The castle level spooky music on a demo of Globdule was what actually got me properly started in making music. So from that one likkle game I learned and progressed from Octamed -> Protracker -> FastTracker2 -> ModPlug Tracker -> Buzz. Thankyou Globdule

hmmm for me on the C64 would be:
Driller The Last Ninja ( all the tunes, especially the dungeon level ) Vendetta Thanatos Green Beret ( Imagine load screen ) Ocean Loader Fairlight X-Out On the Amiga. Unreal Shadow of the Beast Turrican 1 & 2 Shockwave ( title tune ) R-Type Risky Woods ( title tune ) Knights of the Crystallion As always, there are more on both machines that i cant possibly all think of right now. |

The tune that has been stuck in my head now for about a week is the tune in Monkey Island 2 where Guybrush meets his dead parents by the tree. They wanted to say something to him and does that with a song instead.

Well when you listen to the music and play the game "Friday The 13th" on the NES anticipating Jason to pop up at any minute, you get very scared and scream like a faggot bitch.
At least I do. |

most cracktro tunes bring back a wave of memories.. also the turrican 2 stuff.. saboteur ii by rob hubbard is an amazing piece as well. there's a couple of awesome remixes of it in mp3 by some guy. they're around here somewhere.
can't beat the cracktro tunes though. god bless deliplayer. .. Quote:

Shadow of the Beast, and Archipelagos. My dad used to play Archipelagos at 3am in the room next to my bedroom and I'd wake up with that fucking creepy tune warbling quietly through my head. Still creeps me the hell out when I'm playing it.
Third would have to be The Eye of Horus.. just awesome. And funnily enough, soundtracks for all three were composed by David Whittaker. The man is a goddamn legend. |

even though its cheesy i loved 'space crusade' also the unnerving 'space hulk', with such adrenalin thumpers like 'no second prize!' and 'hired guns'
and then youy have the endtro's .... Abandon places 2..... beast 2..... hell just to die and hear them.... classic... for those that dont understand Amiga i would say just play some of the games and absorb.. that rich atmosphere gets ya every time.... but there is one... always clutched to my Retro heart..... Wizball.... and if the devil deemed that i couldn't have that to take with me... then there would be Mutants. |
