And yet another Atari ST port

This time, Highway Encounter.

I was under the impression the released version was a demo, apparently though, its not, its the full game, it just has 'demo' in it because it was never changed as the original programmer died

So far got the Vortex Software logo anim working, now onto the game itself.

Suspect lots of rejigging of graphics to fast/chip mem needed so I have enough mem left over for Amiga copperlist and screen.

Took two hours to get the intro running, so that bodes well for the game

I've spent a lot of time on that game already, it's not too easy to port. Have fun but don't expect (enjoyable) results too soon. I may continue working on my port as well, currently it's on hold as I've lots of other things to do and somehow got annoyed with this game.

Tell me about it, lots of memory used up just so the logo shit worked properly, beginning to think it would have simply been easier to just code that part from scratch!

Hey, nice choice here. Good luck guys. Was a hell of a ride providing the "original" so I am hoping to see an Amiga version too And yep - game is finished and as a bonus it features an Editor too (which the spectrum version lacks).
btw. might be good to add some music and more sfx to the game... ;-)

Blimey. I loved this brilliant game from the ace programmer, Costa Panayi, who also did quite a few other hits like T.L.L, Deflektor and Cyclone on the ZX Spectrum back in the day. I didn't know Highway Encounter existed for the Atari ST! Great news Galahad that you're porting this to the Amiga. Hope it doesn't give you too much of a headache!

Well, its going to give a small headache. Inspite of all the Atari ST forums stating its 512k, its actually a 1meg game.

So, its going to take some work

Amazing work.

Can I ask what tools you're using?

I am using ReSource, ASM-Pro, a self-coded converter for the Atari executables, Steem (for checking the ST game) and a brain.

A year after I would like to ask if Highway Encounter is still in progress / todo list, (probably after Starquake)?

Whyt not ask for the source code it seems that "Mark Haigh-Hutchinson" is willing to do release it...
"The future

As time allows, future versions of this package will include:-

Loading screens for games, where appropriate.
More complete collection of games - you can help! (see above).
Early programs by Costa and Mark.
Scanned cassette inlays.
Scanned magazine reviews.
Source code!
All suggestions are welcomed!

Please send email to:-

Alternatively, you may send snailmail to:-

Unfortunetly Mark has died a few years ago. I got the ST version of the game from Costa Panayi who only had the ST floppy of it. The sources are lost...

That is sad news.

Tomaz, how are you? Any idea if soon you'll have time to round up galaksija mag project?

Thank you for great work on computer mags!

Hey Anubis.

Galaksija mag project has stalled... one reason is no time on my end to update the page... hopefully I will have time in a few months though...

Best regards,
Tomaz
